First time buyer speccing a Cayman S

For a bit of context: never owned a Porsche before, but a return to Scotland after 6 years in the big smoke means this could be a reality!
Anyway, had my eye on the Cayman S as a good balance of power/handling (and think that the 981s look fantastic), and as far as I could tell they have not been losing a huge amount in value. A little play on the configurator and I had specced up my toy for £53k (PASM, PTV and PCM – I’m embracing the lingo) – pretty good, I thought, given that I can’t find one for under ~£45k on the classifieds.
So popped into a OPC the other day to ask about waiting times/how long I’ve got left to order a NA model. Was told that my fairly barren specced Porsche was a no-go for resale value, and that I’d be much better spending a similar amount of money on a 3yr old used example with >£20k of options.
Now, I’m sure there is a degree of truth in what the guy was saying, but also conscious that it’s very much in his interests to go heavy on the options list. My question is, should I expect to be quite safe with a fairly standard car (as above, 3 ticks on the options list), or by being overly tight (see above re: being Scottish) am I being, as I would say, ‘a numpty’?

Very sure. The last UK models to be built are GTSs, and they're in build right now. Other than a handful of PTS colour versions of the GT4, they're the last NA Caymans for the UK.
Sounds like the salesperson you spoke to was rubbish, as this info has been known since the beginning of the year.

There is a black edition now which has a few extras and can be ordered for delivery until the end of the year. If you wanted a black car...

Just noticed the black edition is not an S, but the smaller engine is sweeter and more fun in some people's opinion.

Op - just making sure your eyes are open re depreciation. You've noted that youngish used aren't priced for much less than new. Be aware the spread between PEX value and what they go back on the forecourt for is pretty large versus other German brands or more regular stuff. Ie can be around the £7k mark. Your opener suggested you might not be aware of that. Understandable and it came as a bit of shock for me when selling back my first Boxster!
