I personally think it's a bloody joke (the whole 911 / Cayman cock-wallet fighting contest).

you should be legally contracted to own some of the specialised cars (gt3 rs etc) for a minimum of a year .
these cars meant to be the ultimate drivers cars are not driven they are tucked away in a shed somewhere for a couple of months and flipped for huge profit.

makes me sick.

Reasonably accurate....apart from the fact there are only 130 UK GT4s.

Sounds like a very sensible view to me however that's sort of what you'd expect from him.

A well-judged and sensible article with which I agree.

He makes some very valid points.

When you apply those points to the current market and ask yourself "what makes this car special?" before you get your wallet out, you could end up saving yourself a lot of money.

Pray tell, how is 20% = 26 cars not adding up to 130 ?

Thought that was the initial figure....According to another Mag well over 400 thus far. seems about right to me...

Lol
From Auto Express
"
A Porsche GB spokesman told us that over 400 Cayman GT4s have already been delivered and that demand had outstripped supply."

I wouldn't get too wrapped up with the 'exact' percentage of GT4's for sale on Pistonheads-
obviously Metcalfe is merely making the point a lot of 1st owners try to sell them straight away....

Yes I get that, but is he not trying to imply that a large amount of GT4s in relation to the ones supplied are for sale at any one time?

When the Fact is that if one takes into account the amount of actual cars supplied. Then there are not that many % wise for sale at all.

Typical Porsche Beard response... Getting wrapped up in the 'numbers bs' and missing the point of the article. Think we have a couple of flippers here..!!! lol

Who cares if his build numbers aren't spot on - Harry has called it perfectly IMO...

Almost 5000 cars worldwide, so I expect the UK will probably get 10%.

Metcalfe speaks common sense, but should also have tried to explain why we are where are, and parallels with the late 80's. And why it could be different this time.

Imv, the current RS prices are more to with supply v demand than some future value in years to come....."market" is very effective when it comes to pricing...

Underestimating supply by 2/3rds is a bit more than 'not spot on'...!

My point being that 26 cars is not 20 percent of the UK production of c 350 to 400 cars.

Nooooo... the supply numbers are immaterial. His point was just because it's low / limited / 2'3rds / 1 / 3000 - doesn't a collectible make! There are other far more compelling factors that dictate what makes a car collectable - errrrgo, dont get fixated on production numbers as it's not the meat of his article / argument (which IMO IS spot on).

Look at it another way...

The new GT3 RS. Sure, it's V fast / great looking / loads of tech / continues a great legacy / built in low(ish) numbers and is a stunning production road car.

However. As a collector (as Harry was saying) it doesn't tick the 'right' box. As an enthusiast / driver it can / does, but a collector looks for the end of a significant era type stuff (last N/A engine / last manual / last air cooled and so on)

The 991 GT3 RS isn't ANY of that, in fact its far from it - its the start, the beginning of a new era in tech and driving experience. And for that reason an collector will buy into 997 4.0 RS all day long over a 991 RS.

You could argue the 991 GT3 RS will NEVER be collectible and that the current premiums are simply a) people wanting the latest thing b) owners making hay while 'a' exists...
