Second Porsche thread to die after the 991R April fools article - I'm donning my tin foil hat!

I am willing to try driving one before committing however a flick through the motoring press seems to indicate a similar trend seen with the 991.2 reviews - Porsche have taken a straight 5 star car and demoted it to 4 stars because of the engine.

based on this I am not expecting the experience to surpass my beloved 2.9.

People keep saying Porsche won't care and these cars will sell by the bucketload.

I say that once these reviews keep getting shelf time in the likes of WH Smith that it will no longer be a no brainier to buy a Porsche sports car. Once actual thought and comparisons becomes part of the decision making process and not heart then this becomes a long term problem.

when I was first starting out with Porsche the only car that reviewed better than the boxster was a 458 Italia. I did not bother trying any other car other than the boxster because I knew that nothing could beat it for the money.

I thought you were a bit unfair to Dan to be honest. From past articles he does not pull his punches if he does not like something. The Huracan and Golf R spring to mind. He didn't like this engine but it grew on him over the weekend.

Perhaps you need to drive one for a week as well ? Often with long term cars I see journo's get more fond of something they have been harsh to over a quick drive or so.

Thanks Big Al. Also for being kind with me for removing those swear words from my Food and drink post on Gordon Ramsey's fish and chips. Having thought about though, surely I was just echoing what Gordon himself would have said? biggrin

Have a nice weekend.

And if he was a member on here I couldn't see him lasting long, I don't think he knows too many words that don't start without a profanity.

As an aside if I'd have been served up that in any restaurant I'd have been fcensoredg seething.

I felt physically uncomfortable watching the M Prior video. He knows his stuff and loves proper cars and engines. He was toeing an editorial line, and he looked genuinely sad to be doing so.

I know it wasn't Prior but Sutters; but compare the Sutters Cayman GTS autocar video with Prior's 718 video. I wanted to have an open mind to turbo flat 4s but I don't think that's going to happen.

It may well be a decent steer relative to its contemporary peers but I think 4 pot means at tops it should be a 40k car, and they should have kept the 6 pots and upped the price of those in particular. Ridiculous? Maybe. But blame the hot hatches like A45, Golf R et al for setting that bar. Having said that, Porsche know as well as we do that if the EU weren't meddling with emission rubbish that could well have been the strategy they went for as really a 6 pot 2.7 Boxster for same price as a Merc A-class? Unbelievable value.
