Hi All, this is my first post here.

Would or should anyone be buying a flipped GT4 or Spyder atm? I just looked at a brace yesterday and they look like absolutely lovely cars and I bet they're a lot of fun to drive, but the GT4 was £105k (so about £30k over list on spec) and the Spyder was £90k (so about £15k over list with spec, both amateurish estimates on my part).

I currently have a 2014 Boxster S and am thinking of getting something a bit quicker and more exotic, and I really wanted a manual but ended up with PDK due to availability at the time of purchase, and either of these cars seem great choices with me erring on the side of the Spyder for cost and a lot less for sale.

Would only someone desperate to own one or foolish in getting caught up in the initial bubble on these cars part with so much cash over list, or are they really the 'unicorns' people are buzzing about?

stay with what you have and do a stage 1 tune on it to 360bhp.

be faster than the other two with the PDK option you have and have a working roof.

Are either of these cars worth 60% more than your car, nope, are they sort after yep, only you know if you want to spend £60k more to get in one.
quite a few owners on here have bought at overs, if you want one you pay I guess.

No difference to buying a older GT3 which are much higher overs from a year ago, so the overs thing on the GT4 is a moot point as a 997.2 RS was £95k last year and now £200k this year. 996RS were £65k for ever now £150k makes the GT4 at £25k over list seem cheap lol

you can still pay £115k for a 8 year old 997.1 GT3 or £120k for a 2010 997.2 GT3

So with the GT4 you get new + 3 years warranty and has the lowest overs atm

Those numbers and prices are nonsense!

997.2 RS was £95k last year????
£115k for a 8 year old 997.1 GT3 or £120k for a 2010 997.2 GT3????????

Nonsense I am afraid!

I would say you would be crazy to pay £105k for a GT4 at this stage, but that is because the market hasn't found its position on this car yet, plus you are now entering spring, with plenty on the market; it may be very different once production finishes in the summer. I suspect prices will ease back a little, but I can't see them hitting list again, unless there is a financial meltdown. Have a look, there are plenty of GT4's in the low to mid £90k's depending on your requirements. Comparing the GT4 and Spyder, the GT4 is the better equipped car in terms of performance and suspension, but fairly similar in every other regard; just depends if you want a drop-top more, or a roof with big spoiler!

I'd better not tell my mate who lost money on his when he sold it, he's still getting over what's happened with F40's and that would finish him off! hehe

Both are fantastic cars, great value even with premium and tremendous fun at the money but in different ways. For rapid road use theres nothing between them although as intended the GT4 is clearly more track focused.

Spyder more of a niche product hence a touch cheaper to buy even though values have climbed as expected into Spring. Long term Spyder virtually guaranteed classic due to exclusivity and rareity even compared to limited run GT4 as last of the na engines.

Own one car and live it for a year, then rinse and repeat.

Agree as a GT car the next GT4 will doubtless be na but less likely that essentially non GT focused cars like the next Spyder and e.g. the 911.2 GTS will be na...probably turbo.

The Spyder costs less, but when you consider that the list price was around £10k cheaper, they are similarly matched in terms of value. Spyder has the limited nature to bolster the price; GT4 has the accolades (justified).

My wife has a GT4 clubsport in yellow. One of the best cars I can think of in that price range even with flipper premium.

I have Spyder arriving in next couple of weeks so will be able to compare. But by all accounts the owners absolutely love them. Gearbox and exhaust note in particular!

Will you end up driving the GT4 and your wife the Spyder?

And with a decent PCM/tracker, and it's good looks. The best ticket in town.

It also depends on your potential usage. If lots iof track work then the better brakes on the GT4 make it the obvious choice. For mainly road use there's very little in it, depends if you want a roof. As a daily, the roof on the Spyder would drive me mad.

Thanks for all the food for thought on this issue. Does anyone know how many UK deliveries of GT4 and Spyder there have been yet? Seems like the Spyder is rarer. I'm not in a position to not worry about depreciation and the £11k on the Boxster S (someone else took the initial sting out of the first year) in 9 months at dealer prices seems like a lot, but as the last of the NA F6 Boxsters I'm hoping it'll level out a bit now.

I had an S1 Elise so the Spyder roof is amazing compared to that and probably doesn't require a handy supply of kitchen roll when it rains. I do have a fondness of quirky mid-engined soft tops as a result so Spyder looking more and more appealing. Looking forward to hearing the in-house comparison AndrewD.

I have zero track experience but love a good road drive. That could change at some point but track credentials aren't at the top of the list atm.

Oh no, hi-jacking my own thread here as have just seen an F430 Spyder for similar outlay. Any opinions on the merits/downsides of that as an alternative option?

Estimations (and that is all they are) are around 400 GT4's and 150 Spyder's once all deliveries have taken place.

Double the original estimates. Same happened with the 991 GT3 and I suppose will happen to the 991RS.

To be fair AP never mentioned an upper limit for the GT3 models.
