I am taking my newly acquired 997 GTS to the PEC for a 90min session in a couple of weeks a session organised by PCGB. It's one on one driving tuition for 90 mins. Has anyone done this in their own car at PEC ?

I'd be interested to know if people think insurance is necessary ? One person has said in the PCGB forum you won't be near another car and it's not necessary but I'd be interested in peoples views.

Really looking forward to it as I can't think of a better way of getting to know my car!

As cmoose says, no real need. And even if you go off track there's nothing really to hit.

I wouldn't and didn't bother. You'll have an instructor with you the whole time and so will most everyone else on the circuits. The instructors carry walkie talkies too, so if you spin on the handling circuit for example, they can warn other cars. The last time I was there, Richard Atwood was instructing - let us know if you have him! Have fun.

I did a half day's "warm up" in December in my Cayman but didn't bother with insurance.

The track discipline is very good with clear instruction on passing etiquette.

On the handling circuits there is pretty limited run off area, but as others have said the instructors keep things sensible. One thing that is different from a track day is that some of the punters are not used to a circuit like environment, so I wouldn't say accidents are impossible. I had one chap indicate left and as I overtook he changed his mind and moved right. Quite close! Speeds are generally lower than a track day, so on balance I would probably skip on the insurance.
