Know anything about this Ruf 911
Discussion
Firstly, I assume they mis-typed the year and it should be 1982 not 1992. The car certainly looks like a 930 model Turbo ie 3.3 Single-Turbo from the light and front bumper and they mention an X plate which is consistent.
As for it being a Ruf, it certainly has Ruf wheels on it, but you would need to check any other claims. I'll bet the Trader knows nothing about it, judging by the wide variety of stock they are selling.
I don't know of any model that Ruf made of that era that is close to 500bhp. The main conversion was the Ruf BTR, which was 374bhp.
Unless they have written proof of an upgrade from Ruf and a dyno-test for 500bhp I'd be inclined to be sceptical. Besides 500bhp is a suspiciously round number!

Sold the Porsche then Guy?
Do I detect a bit of sarcasm? I posted that so that the poster, who does not know me, might see that I have some experience and know something about Rufs.
Yes, my car has a Porsche VIN, not a Ruf VIN, but common convention is that cars that have been converted to Ruf specification, by Ruf and have been badged as Ruf (again by Ruf) are known as Rufs. Of course I mean full Ruf engines and other parts, not just a set of wheels added.
For example, many of the Ruf RTurbos in the world started life as Porsches and have subsequently had full conversions to RTurbo spec, these are still known as RTurbos, although they may not be considered as desireable by some, since they do not have the Ruf VIN.
This is also the case with Ruf CTRs. There are several Yellowbirds out there built by Ruf that were conversions from Porsches and still retain a Porsche VIN.

When did RUF actually start to produce its own cars as opposed to converting Porsches then? Maybe I'm wrong, but ISTR that the generally accepted view is that once RUF became a TUV approved manufacturer, the only cars considered to be pure RUFs were those that bore RUF VINs. The resale values of these RUF VINed cars seem to bear this fact out too.
It's this that distinguishes RUFS from the many tuning options out there in the marketplace...

1981.
I agree a Ruf VIN car is the purer car and also more valuable. If they had ever made a RHD R-GT2 then I would have bought one, as they hadn't it seemed so much easier to convert my car. However whilst I am very happy with my car, if it pleases you, you can call it whatever the hell you like!

PS Some other Tuners are also now manufacturers, such as Techart.

No it isn`t that one Vic. We have sold that (very lovely) car on the last two occasions it changed hands and we know where it is now, waiting to come home to daddy again !! That was the car we all refer to as TF2000 and which featured in 911 & P wrld a few times.
I`m no expert but I too think 500bhp sounds an awfully big number for a road reliable 3.3 turbo engine. Put on the dyno they do well to produce their quoted 300bhp most of the time and in fairness 300bhp does seem quick! It`s pretty easy to tell. Find a straight bit of bone dry road, make sure the tyres are spot on, get it into 2nd gear and floor the thing. It should be undrivable.
500bhp is a massive number. Richard Chamberlain`s Judd developed twin turbo engine in his "935" peaks at around that figure. He manages to get by with probably 14 or 15 inch slick tyres. So some 9 inch wheels shod with plastic road tyres will just cry like a little baby and give up.

Don't think it makes much difference whether the car is manufactured by Ruf or not(i.e from scratch)as they order the chassis from Porsche and put all the bits together rather than make everything themselves. Any aftermarket cars are converted to the same high standards as the cars with Ruf vins as Guy will verify and are considered just as valuable as customers by Ruf. Anyway, all cars lose value used!
Cho, RUF are TUV approved car "manufacturer", hence the reason they are able to name their cars "RUF" and give them chassis numbers. That's what gives them their value (rightly or wrongly - and I'm not sure FWIW whether I agree with that or not).
The RUF name was debased in the same way as AMG was by the myriad of badly executed slant nosed SCs running around with a set of RUF wheels and a couple of RUF badges back in the early '90s. Thankfully those that visit RUF nowadays tend to spend their money on "real" tuning!
I also remember the ill fated attempt to run what was in effect a franchised RUF operation in the UK some years ago. I met the guys running the operation (the name "Andy" rings a bell) and they had incredible enthusiasm but it all seemed to peter out and I don't really know the reason why...

Funnily enough i have been talking to a chap who wanted more info about this car last week.
One thing is for sure the car wont be making 500bhp.
Guy's comments have been spot on, this car is probably a btr conversion. I remember hearing sometimes of owners with btr's turning up the boost and getting near to 500bhp, but to be honest thats probably just idle speculation and dreaming.
I am going to phone the seller and ask for the vin, and then ask the guys in the office to look at the vin and then we can find out the whole story(im at RUF)
Also the seller doesnt know how to spend an extra 20seconds re-reading what he has typed in the description of the car...very poor imho.
Oh and Guy's car is most definetly viewed as a RUF,
all the best

OK Adam, what are you up to at Ruf?
Im working with the head of Marketing, and we are doing lots of things, for instance we have just completed the english version for all the RUF alloy wheels,
Recently though and a lot more interesting, I was going through all the old photos taken during the filming of the Faszination video. For instance one of them is great as it shoes Stefan climbing out of the CTR, white socks and loafers clearly visible!
I really love it here, the people are great, the weather is getting better, and the 'bahn is 5mins away and on my daily commute
all the best
