I need help here. It's new rubber time and due to a damn good deal on Michelin at Costco this week I am going down that route. At first I thought the dilemma was Pilot Sport or Pilot Sport 2 and the latter seems to win favour, but since the Sport 2 doesn't appear to be made in the 285/30/18 size I require I need to know definitively if I can put a 295/30/18 on the standard 10" rim of my 993 C4S. Costco book says 10.5" is minimum required, Michelinman website says 10" is minimum - I'm confused. BTW if N numbers are to be present and correct for the Sport 2 I would have to fit a 235/40/18 to the 8" front rims instead of 225. Any thoughts. I don't really want to start a 'which flavour tyre' debate (but happy to read opinions). Thanks guys.

The 235 and 295 should fit without problems, IMHO (i've had a 993 C4S myself).

I agree - there is actually a certain amount of variation in the overall width of tyres between manufacturers. In any case, up at this sort of level, the difference between 285 and 295 is minimal. The general rule of thumb is that if you do decide to go for a different width or profile, that you need to keep the overall rolling diameter within 2% of the original The following link is quite useful for this...

Good luck

Thanks lads, but after careful consideration (and not before a long conversation first with the Michelin representative and then with the Michelin test driver) I have opted for the original Pilot Sport 1 in the standard sizes (termed 1 and a half in Porsche fitment). The wider ones will fit but may not give me the feel that the manufacturer intended. What's the point of experts if no-one listens to them?

In my non-expert view you made the right decision. I feel that the sidewall distortion with the wider tyre may have caused problems. This is much more pronounced with the extra low profile tyres, it would not matter much on 55 profile.
