considering buying a 997

Good morning,

i've been contemplating buying a second hand 996/997 and spotted an early 2005 997 that's coming up at auction and was wondering what i should be looking for or if to avoid it all together.
The car is a 3.8 S with 63k on the clock, it's got a full service history however its due a service (last serviced 5k ago in June 15) and has had 5 owners - normally that would put me off, but not too sure if these car's change hands often?
I'm not entirely sure what it will go for at auction and may be overpriced so not to sure what to expect to pay - any thoughts?
I understand a small minority can have IMS/Bore issues, is this something i should be worried about or can check for?

Steer clear. This is a gross generalisation, but the last place I would buy an early 997 is an auction - just where owners and traders put cars with scored bores / other issues.

they change hands regularly so no issue there

I would worry about IMS/bore scoring and budget for a warranty that includes such items with a £10k or more claim limit

Buy an older, better cared for 996 with the money. Don't stretch to a worse 997

Same as anything really, if you buy the cheapest or the most expensive ends of the market you're not getting a good deal.
