Wheel refurbishment, would you get them redone?

Sent my 996 Turbo in for a wheel refresh as one was kerbed and all four had some corrosion inside the rim. I chose a place that was recommended by a Porsche independent and paid £220 plus new center caps from Porsche at £110. I'm not really very happy with the job. It's quite had to show from the photos but they are a bit ripply, orange peal and very thick paint. They also scratched inside the wheel nut holes putting the wheels back on. Am I being too picky? Should I expect a factory looking finish? I've had the car 8 years and it's only done 35k and is very clean.

It looks like they've just painted over the existing paint judging by how faint the lettering is. Done properly, they would have been stripped first. Have a chat with Chris at Exel Wheels to get his view on them.

Very poor finish, if you are near Reading I can recommend a top place.

These are mine that I got refurbished recently to give you an idea. Not saying they're perfect but I was happy for £280 including painting the centre caps. They certainly went back to bare alloy via sand blasting and acid dipping.

Looks like a very cheap job. About the cost of a rattle can of mettalic touch up Id say.

Doubt there is any point sending them back as whoever did them has not got a clue.

I have used Chris at Excel wheels and have been very happy with the results.

Thanks for all the replies. I emailed them over photos and they have agreed to redo them. When the guy called me back he told me they were short staffed as the manager was off sick so can't re-book me until the 7th of June. I suspected they had just done a once over the original surface as only one wheel had any corrosion / damage on the surface.
They have a couple of places and the car has been booked in for a couple of weeks due to them being really busy. Think I will try and contact the owner tomorrow to make them aware. I don't want the same person doing it and don't feel I should need to wait another couple of weeks for it to get done properly. I'm based near Glasgow but don't really want to say who it was as they have agreed to fix them.

Yikes. I wouldn't go back there. Is the colour match as bad in real life? The wheel centres look a different colour to the wheel.

Hi mate I'm based in East Kilbride and had exactly the same problem with a local company. On the initial booking I received a phone call saying "we can't get your wheel off, can you come and take the car away". When I arrived they couldn't get my wheels back on, they were trying to fit a wheel with a spacer onto a hub that already had a spacer, they were walking about scratching their heads telling me my bolts were too short???

When they did manage to get the wheels in, after I had a friend remove the "stuck bolt" they came out a mess, they also managed to powdercoat 3 wheel spacers on to the wheels which is a big no no.

They then agreed to redo the wheels, and again the finish was riot. I spoke with the owner who told me expectations were far to high and that my car wasn't perfect so what was I moaning about.

I contacted the companies head office and got a full refund... If it's the same guys I wouldn't let them paint my garden shed let alone my pride and joy.

I've seen worse than that finish...the faint looking letters and orange peel is down to the application namely not enough care being taken by the operator, it's hit or miss finding a good refurb company I always ask to see wheels that have just been done not the display examples.

Recently the best job I've had done is from a franchise company called "The Wheel Specialist" not cheap but a quality job with none of the above issues.
