Why no proper paddle shifters ???
Discussion
The tiptronic on a modern 911 is a decent gearbox, but for me the little plastic rocker switches on the steering wheel ruin it. They are not intuitive and feel nasty to use.
Consider that the Aston DB9 comes with a tradtional slush-box automatic, yet coupled with proper aluminium paddles behind the steering wheel, the shift is apparently very satisfying.
So why has'nt anyone fitted similar paddle shifts to a tiptronic 911?
They are just electrical switches, so it cannot be hard. I cannot help but think the tiptronic would be a much nicer car with a proper set of shift levers...

Totally agree with that. Only ever tiptronic Porsche I've been in was Cyrus1971's turbo a few months ago. I was very impressed with it, very quick gearchange, but the buttons looked fiddly. The Aston/Ferrari style paddles would suit the tiptronic better IMHO.
Cyrus mentioned the turbo tiptronic gearbox is the same one used in the SL55. I've not been in a SL55, but when in Phatgixers SL65 at Bruntingthorpe, his car had small buttons on the steering wheel as opposed to paddles.
