Swap 997.2 RS for 991 RS
Discussion
Here's a thought...
What seemed like only a few weeks ago, I placed a 'pint' bet with my mate -
I suggested that the £275-£300k 991 RS's were crazy asks.. Not anything to do with the drive, way they go or look. Purely based on the volume, unknown as yet, but seemingly high quantity all the same..
With this in mind coupled with the now well established merits of the older model, a playful disagreement arose...
I reckoned that within 12 months the models would collide on sticker price, which he couldn't accept... On reflection think I may of been a little generous with my timescale - could be 6 months?????
I am lucky to own a fairly unique (condition/miles/spec) garage Q of the older 997.2 RS vintage and have started asking myself would I do a straight swap if and no doubt when the opportunity arises??
Interesting thought....Still - positive I,m a pint up..

I think they will X as one is last of breed , the other first of new breed . Numbers up to June so far on the 991 RS are about 211 ish. so it is a very limited run as most have been made already . What seemed like only a few weeks ago, I placed a 'pint' bet with my mate -

No idea when they will X , but I think the 997.2 RS will continue to rise and will become the 2.7 RS of its generation - the 3.8 being equivalent to the Touring and the 4.0 the LW .

Bottom line the 997.2 RS is a serious piece of automotive history - we will look back and say they just don't make them like this anymore - brilliant car .
Don't get me wrong so is the 991 RS , it's just that it's the start of the journey - bloody epic though

Edited to say : I still believe this to be the case even if the 991.2RS is available as a manual - think this will not affect the 997.2 down to engine , steering , no rear wheel steer , etc

I wouldn't straight swap mine for a 991RS.
Several I know are jumping ship, having had the latest 'new kid on the block' delivered, the 675LT. It's being mullered.
The 991 is a tour de force, a huge step forward technically and quicker.
The 997, in comparison, is harder work, dated technically and slower.
However it has the analogue feel, sublime steering and shift that the 991 cannot hope to match.

I realise I might be in the minority here, but I actually find the 991 RS steering pretty sublime as well, nice delicate feel and full of feedback.
I also find manually operating the gear lever fwd/back in the 991 great fun.
I was never that impressed with the gear change in the 997, the GT4 has a much nicer shift IMO.
I do agree the 997 GT3 RS is a great car, but I actually find the 991 version more fun to drive on a twisty road.

My blue ones for sale but I'm having second thoughts.
It is the only standard gt3 rs that Porsche have competed in the Nurburgring 24hr race with so far. I believe that makes it the closest race homologated road legal car Porsche has produced. Impeccable pedigree .

As soon as the GT3 goes turbocharged/ hybrid, the want will return.
I believe legislation dictates every new car will be turbo by 2020 if not sooner!Imo 991.2 gt3 /RS will be last flat 6 n/a engine of all Porsches made!
But really, from a manufacturer's view point, na has had its day.

I was reading a review of the 911 R the other day, spoke glowingly of the Gen II RS in comparison.
On the flip side when I was at the PEC recently my instructor said as an all round car he have a 991 RS over a 997 RS, reckons it's a better road car.
End of the day they are all fantastic cars. Personally I'd want to keep the naturally aspirated manual car as its an experience that is getting rarer and rarer and PDK's are going to keep progressing.

Looks like similar sentiments towards the 997.2 RS
Have not owned my long but remember driving one a few years back and am experiencing same thoughts, emotive feelings and pleasures - then as now..
It's noisy, bloody noisy. Making all sorts of weird and just wonderful and special noises, pinging and chattering away!
It's awkward when cold especially the gearbox being a right reluctant thing until temps come up. Its hard and compromised with the whole thing jiggling and bobbing away...
THEN once its ready - BAM!!! it all just feels so right, so special and so alive - even at crawling pace, you have to put the effort in and the rewards are unique. The car feels 'on it' all the time - and I like that..
Back to the 991 RS - I'm warming to the thuggish and brutish looks but without driving one cant imagine how it can give me the simple, pure and rewarding feel of the previous job...
Time may tell
