996 Turbo - diff is toast - what next??
Discussion
Ugh, bad news. Mechanic says my diff internals are damaged. Apparently a tooth broke off... and obviously did further damage.
To be clear, the actual diff, not the crownwheel/pinion.
For starters I can't find a part number for the standard open diff. "Katalog" only lists the LSD.
So I have no idea whether the assy is available as a part or not. Anyone know?
Secondly - an LSD option is not (all that) expensive. Apparently - 855+vat. Quaife.
No brainer?
Note that I don't have any specific desire to install an LSD, so if I could get this sorted keeping an open diff and there are savings, please let me know how I go about this.
Thanks in advance...

Surely if you fit an lsd in place of an open diff on (one end only of) a 4wd car all sorts of weirdness could happen? I'd expect the abs/traction control to throw a wobbly for a start.
No, it's commonly done. No reason why it should, if anything it lessens the chance of TC being triggered.Gassing Station | Porsche General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
