Akrapovic or other?

Some of you may know I've been hankering after a little more bark from my 997 gen. 1 C4S. Now I've considered the usual suspects but Akrapovic seems to be the one to beat, however at £2900 isn't cheap. The only way I could justify such an expense is knowing that I would get some of this money back if I remove the exhaust when I sell the car, and sell both seperately.

My question is, and it's a tough one, does anyone know how much I'm likely to get back on a £3k exhaust after 20k miles has been put on it?

Also, any other exhausts that you would consider alongside the Akrapovic?

I'd guess you'd get £1000 back when you sell, maybe less.

The car doesn't sound like a keeper for you, so PSE is by far the best option IMHO if you're considering resale/value for money.

Thanks for the reply. When I bought the car 18 months ago I planned to keep it 10 years, however my business is (touch wood) doing better than ever and I could potentially be looking to upgrade in 4-5 years.

For a lot less than 1/2 that price consider the Milltek 'CUP' silencers

Bear in mind when you come to sell your used Akrapovic system for 1/2 price, that the purchaser could in reality buy a new fully warranted system for less..

Milltek is a good shout Chris, and one that I wouldn't hesitate to go for. Just wish I could hear one in real life before I bite the bullet. Do you know anyone who has one? I'd be willing to travel.

Steve - Not for me thanks. I'm not a racing driver (did my first ever track day last month) and don't think I'd gain enough from it, especially on the public highway. Whereas I know I would enjoy the aural pleasure of a sports exhaust.

Can you not do an exhaust bypass on the 997 which would be much cheaper?

Sharkwerks do a bypass.

The Gen 1 PSE is actually pretty loud, whereas the Gen 2 PSE barely makes a noise. If you don't have one on your Gen 1 then i'd get a PSE for sure. It will be warrantied and will make the car easier to sell as it's a very popular option.

I would not go with the Akra. Build quality is all very well, but who cares about welds when its under the car out of view! Miltek are nothing special, but at the end of the day most brands will do the job. I'd only get an Akra if i had money to burn.

Interstellar - do you mean the gundo hack mod? I don't like the sound, a bit chavvy IMO

HondaNSX - I've heard that the PSE is expensive at approx £2k and only minimally louder than the standard set up. I'm not fussed for warranty as its 2008 model and whichever exhaust I get will have a warranty.

Agree Akrapovic is a tad expensive. I considered Sharkwerks but it is my understanding that it's only available for the 997.2 not 997.1

I personally think the PSE sounds great on the Gen 1. Maybe you want to try to attend the meet to hear some in the flesh?
