Is it just mine or do all 996's suffer from interor trim noise? over the period i've owned it it seems to be getting noisier. I've had it looked at by the dealer but they seem to think it's ok. I seem to have creaking noises from the dash and the rear side panels. I thoght maybe it was due to the cold weather but it's still there after long journeys and ambient interior temperature. I know it's a minor fault but it's driving me insane!
my 996 c2 seemed fine, but I've noticed since I had a new windscreen fitted in the turbo recently there's a sort of "creaking" noise form the front of the dash, but only at certain times/temperatures.
I reckon the muppets that fitted the screen have overdone the black gummy stuff they stick-em in with and the excess "gummy-stuff" is rubbing on the dash - maybe you've a similar problem ?

I had my windscreen replaced by Auto glass last summer, prior to this no squeeks or rattles. Since then I have a progressively worsening "creak" which has been driving me crazy recently. I was quite convinced that it was the dashboard. I have spent sometime trying to figure it out with a couple of mechanics, had the windscreen replaced again recently all to no avail until last week by chance I discovered that it was the top edge of the windscreen. However the sound gets transmitted in the screen so I and a number of others were convinced it was the dashboard. I pulled back the rubber seal around the outside of the screen and put in a small amount of silicon and guess what it's silent again! dunno how long it will remain that way, I think it really needs the porsche rubber cord which I have tracked down a technical bulletin for finally (I'll PM it to anyone interested, as it applies to front and rear screens). I guess next time I'm near an OPC I'll try and buy some of it to apply. Any one who's had a screen replaced this is nearly always the cause of the creaks/squeeks etc. - Good luck with them!
Hi Guys. I have a proposal. Instead of everyone complaining about their particular rattle or squeak I suggest that everyone describes the rattle and what he did to stop or not stop it. By that we can locate the area and not all go on a trial and error hunt to find the missing link. I start: My 996 conv.has a squeak on the right hand side around my right knee. OPC stripped the A-pillar cladding and put some cushioning tape on the door sill. Surprise, surprise - I did not help. The squeak is stille there and it drives me nuts!
