Looking at a Polar Silver 993 RS Clubsport, 1 owner, 51,000 KM, never raced or tracked. No bodywork or respray. LHD

How much do you think it would be worth?

Thanks,

Mark

Great cars! But then I am biased.

There's a chap on here called Paul (handle is "944/68") who has just bought a red 993 RS CS with a few modifications on it. I know the car was up for sale at GT Classics for 55 grand. I suspect he got a discount, but that gives you an idea of what the retail is on LHD Clubsports....they aint cheap.

To put it into context though, RHD Clubsports have recently been offered for 75 and 85 grand retail (at Gmund Cars who are always fairly pricey)!! The latter had only 10K miles on....and it was silver, like the one you are referring to.

I would say that you would struggle to get a decent LHD Clubsport for less than 50 grand. The prices on all 993 RSs are going up at the moment. You are likely to get your money back if you buy sensibly and don't crash it.

On that note, whatever you do, get the car professionally inspected by someone who knows 993 RSs. And I mean someone who specifically knows about this exact model. Peter Tognola looked at mine for me before I bought it. You don't want one that has been in a heavy shunt. There are some fakes around too.

Have a look here:

That one is a great example of a 993 RS CS. I saw it at Oulton once. I think it has carbon doors and Motec. Worth every penny as well.

The white one belonged to Russel H, had it for 3 years and then it was head hunted by Thomas (H&S) for a european client. We fitted Motec in the early days, had 320+bhp with around 295lbft. Lovely car in excellent condition, real M003 with carpets and sound deadening added into the roof.

I suspect that RH has now bought a GT3 instead, but I have no doubt that he regrets selling it!

The one I am looking at is up for around £57k - seems a little high, especially with 51,000 km on the clock!

The only 993 RS Clubsport I have ever really looked at is Peter Tognolas car. Am I right in assuming that they were produced in much fewer numbers than the standard RS? (if there is such a thing) How many were made?

The £10-20K premium seems a lot for essentially a stripped out version of the RS. Ignoring the big front and rear spoilers, am I right to assume that there is a lot more hidden value in the mechanics of the car?

Is the Clubsport a viable proposition for use on the road or are we talking only really talking serious track work?

My opinion is biased, but once you have driven a CS in anger around a track you would not accept anything less in terms of body stiffness, so although the standard RS is a great car, it is not in the same league as a CS on the track. Which kind of answers part of your question.

I believe that the ratio of M002 (RS) to M003 (CS) is something like 15:1, so a 20% hike in price for a 93% rarer car is probably about right. Maybe this answers the other part.

As for future values, since the 911 2.7 RSL now costs £70k and a recently sold 2.8RSR went for £120k, do the sums, the rarer car will always ultimately always be the one that is worth more.

No way can you use one of these cars everyday unless you are barking at motorbikes, but they can be driven on the road on occasions especially if you add a little comfort to drown out the noise, like carpets (which can easily be removed later). I drove mine to the 'Ring and back a couple of years ago, apart from wearing earplugs the drive was very comfortable.

My car is a comfort spec converted to Clubsport spec by the Porsche factory when new by the first owner so he could have a Clubsport car with aircon and electric windows.

I wouldn't want to drive it every day. It is loud but fine for driving to and from track days. I don't feel the need for ear plugs, despite the Cargraphic exhaust system. If you do 90 MPH in sixth you don't get a headache. The seats and driving position are comfortable enough.

Vic

If only 120 were built aimed at mainly track use, how many are left assuming some have beed totalled in the past decade or so?

Wow! If you are talking worldwide numbers here and there are only 40 good 993 RS Clubsports out there, even at over £50K buying one of those has to be great investment potential.

what I struggle with is how someone can buy a clubsport brand new, keep it for this long, do 51k in it and never take it round a track. THATS UNBELIEVABLE and quite mad.
Definately the best aircooled norm asp 911 Porsche ever made, nothing much will better it for sheer driving pleasure.

..from people I have spoken to. The general concensus is to work on a 1/3 for each, and as somebody said there were 120 made...

Obviously these figures are very approximate at best!!

51km...on track with a CS is possible,,,and they may be very hard miles.
I do find the breakdown of 120 cars a little spurious...but could be true?

I was interested in the white CS from T & S but baulked at the price. I looked at the spread over a decent straight lhd 993 RS and then realised that I would probably get to use the regular car more. As fantastic as the CS is, it excels on the track...a standard RS is very good on track and much better for a European tour....worth weighing up which car you will get more fun out of unless you are buying purely for investment...(yawn!)

I will have as many 2,8 rsr as poss please at that price. Proper cars now 300k +,with good history even more money.
73 rsl has been changing hands for more than 100k for nice proper examples. the 2.8 that just sold in london was just under 300 with another car around with the same chassis number!!
I agree with Paul here’re clubsport vers standard version. Nice standard ver lhd rs good history, low miles, straight etc are now around 48 +.I think you will find that they will maintain some where near there new price differential’s the cs was always a bit more, about 7k more in Germany and nearly 10 over here. The old more for less! Buy by your heart want you want, they will both hold there money now, and there is very little difference ,track or road between them ,except you don’t need ear plugs with a standard version.
I would also say that if the clubsport concerned has not been near a circuit, its probably been sat in a salvage yard or barn most of its life. If its German owned assume its been well tracked, nothing wrong with this as long as its been maintained properly.
Don’t know where 120 has come from? factory made approx 1170 cars total, of which around approx 400 were clubsports.
The white car that Russell owned and is now back in Germany, i would buy today, if i wanted a nice cs. Try him at what he paid for the car, you never know!
A car at 55k , needs to be dam good. The other Paul 968 convert ha ha! has got a very nice car ,that has been around the scene for some time ,lots of history and bills etc ,well looked after ,even if the mapping is crap!
What’s the chassis number of the silver cs car, I can check it out for you.
