Hello

I have a Dension 500S BT which was already installed in my 2006 997 with PCM 2.1 when I bought it.
Everything worked fine until recently but now the PCM is constantly rebooting, ive had the PCM checked by Cartronics (sent headunit in to them)and they could not detect a problem with the PCM and said that it is another component on the MOST fibre optic loop causing a problem, most likely the Dension.
Does anybody have any advice on how to diagnose or recommend an installer/audio technician etc who can help ideally someone in North Manchester/Bury area.

Thanks

Can't help but I had this too - the occasional freeze & reboot. It was never that much of an issue. I always assumed the fault was with the Dension unit
I would do the obvious stuff, check the DIP switches on the metal unit are set correctly, try it without an iPod plugged in for a bit, try hard reseting it ie unplugging it completely for a bit, check all the connections especially the MOST ones etc.
If it still does it you will need to trouble shoot it by taking the Dension system out of the loop and seing if the fault foes away

Thanks Jakesmith
I have already tried all connectors and ensured there all fixed properly will probably now disconnect the Denison any advice on how to remove would be appreciated as it is just a mass of wires connected to the box behind the centre console.

Also does anyone have the correct dip switch settings so I can double check.

My setup is the PCM 2.1 non Bose with CD multichanger, DVD for navigation and ASK amplifier.

First things first update the firmware on the Dension system. Easy to do, best way is to take your laptop to the car so you're not running in and out.

If that's not it then you need to see if the Dension unit is at fault, by removing it. MOST is a loop with one cable being one way and one the other way so you can't just unplug it or everything stops working like your PCM, amp, phone, nav. So instead

Disconnect the MOST plug that goes into the Dension unit - which is two orange fibre optic cables attached to one plug, and then you use a loop connector like this one:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MOST-Fibre-Optic-Loop-Ca...

to join them together to complete the loop

When you start the car it might then say CD Changer missing as that is coded to the car but not on the loop but don't worry about that (the Dension immitates the CD changer, that's how it works)

You then drive the car for a while and see if the crashing PCM goes away

If it does, your Dension unit is the cause but not sure how to sort - contact them directly & explain? They were good with me

I have the same unit on my 997.1 and it freezes and needs rebooting at least once a week, I just donthought think they are a very good software link.

I will replace it with a Apple iplay when I get time, they are getting cheaper and at less than £400 a very good option for a 997.1 especially considering the rubbish sat navigation.
