Is the Porsche 911 R the best Porsche 911?

"So is this the perfect road-going Porsche? Pending a more extensive stint behind the wheel, my instincts say no, that title remains with the Cayman GT4. The 911R is still a wonderful thing to drive, so simple and forgiving, and that manual ’box lets you shake hands with the engine, rather than Skyping it via PDK. But, the GT4’s performance envelope is better suited to UK roads – while the GT3 RS’s gearbox and aero make better use of this engine’s abilities.
Having said that, if I had to own one of the above, it would be the 911R. It’s under my skin. It proves how well Porsche knows its customers because none of the cars it makes are perfect, but one of them will be perfect for you."

For your own very specific driving needs/roads, possibly. But some (many) like something with more character that's more taxing to drive, not necessarily faster, but more taxing.Porsche911R said:

no just means the flipper market is rife as ever and if you know some one who can get you one to flip you do so be good or BAD.BMW GTS is another example at £175k for a £125k car or a Rolex Daytona £8.2k list selling for £15k
things don't have to be good or bad, they just have to fetch overs and people will que up to buy them.
GT4 seems to be selling OK at £95k so in that respect people ARE willing to pay overs for them.

This is what I don't get about Porsche. They make lovely cars (owned a GT3 myself) and have a spread of cars with various abilities. Yet... For the enthusiast (which Porsche purport to be hand in glove with) and the world over there are many they go and make the pure 911 in tiny numbers! Economics aside, I don't get it. Why cant we all have the option of an R along side the many choices of bloated GT-esk 911's with electric this and that.
Something fast for the road not track / light / manual / have the ability to tick many nice options boxes / looks good - done. Why hang the carrot out there only to not be able to buy it unless you want to pay a gazzzilion squid over?

Without the certainty of premiums, I'd question whether that would be the case, same as any Porsche GT product too.Back on topic though, I've had a little taster in the 911R, and I agree that the GT4 is a much more road compliant car, able to exploit more of the performance. Fraction of the price too, but of course those that can afford the 911R will tend to have a nice collection of motors anyway.
