Windscreen repair in the North West?

I had a stone hit the windscreen of my 997tt at the weekend, it made a huge bang and left a chip with some small cracks raditing out from it. It's not huge, about 10mm across in total, but a pain in the ass as just abpve the steering wheel.

My first call was to the insurance and was routed to Autoglass. This left me cold (it will need a replacement screen, no we don't use original glass, and we might have to wait for someone who has fitted a screen to a Porsche...), and the second call to the OPC resulted in a quote for over £850.

However I am also reluctant to change the screen, I've had much bigger chips repaired before and apart from the cost changing the screen makes me nervous (will they damage the car, will it make more noise/creak, etc.) so before I go down this route I'd like to try to get it repaired.

So does anyone know anyone in the NW (ideally around the Warrington area, or mobile) that is really good at glass repairs? I know Halfords do it, but I suspect that a professional glass guy could get a much better result.

Pete came out today, and I can only say he has worked a minor miracle, where there was a star-shaped chip in my windscreen there is now just a barely perceptable little dint.

I can fully reccommend Pete based on this, and a real car enthusiast and nice guy to boot.

Just had a quote of £855 plus VAT from my OPC to change the screen in my 981 boxster 9 genuine part , Autoglass wanted £1450 for an aftermarket copy !

Lots of horror stories re Autoglass, and I was not impressed with the short call I had tiwht them. I would avoid them.

But both quotes are a bit steep! OPC Chester quoted me £850 all in with an original part. Try them?

Or try Pete, he seems good and ddoes a lot of Porsche cars, new and old
