Porsche Museum question

Hi guys,
I am going over to Stuttgart in November, and intend to visit the Porsche museum while there.
I have just noticed that they offer rental cars, and was wondering if anyone has used this service? My wife is thinking of getting a 911 Targa to replace her Boxster, and we thought it might be an idea to get one for a day while we are there.
Are there any decent roads near by that we could go for a drive on? I appreciate the November probably isn't the best time of year for this, but thought as wee're there....

Remember to bring your passport and driver's license if you intend to hire a car from the museum. Book before you arrive. Ask them for the best route for the period you're renting for, they'll then program the GPS for you. They will usually include unrestricted parts of the autobahn as part of the route (that what BMW did for me). They would also tell you the speed rating of the tyres since your car will potentially be on winter tyres.
The museum is great but if you know exactly when your going pre-book the factory tour too.
Did the museum a couple of years ago whilst in Stuttgart for business. Revisited this summer and did the. Museum again which was great but also did the factory tour which was amazing. Booked it a couple of months before hand and was concerned the misses would be bored but she absolutely loved it.

Yeah, book the factory tour well in advance. If you fancy a proper lunch, you gotta book it too otherwise like me, you'll be nibbling on croissant out there at the cafe with the masses :-) If your car uses number plate frames, go across the street to the dealership, and grab a pair it'll have "Porsche Zentrum Stuttgart" printed - it was 10 euros for the pair. If you're member of Porsche club, bring your card with you, the museum entrance will end up only costing 3-4 euro.
Budget at least 4 hours for the Mercedes museum, it's huge, at least 5(?) levels of Merc goodness.

I think I may have to extend my stay, there seems to be loads of things to do in the area! I think we are going to try and do the factory visit at both Porsche and Neckarsulm (I'd like to see where my RS6 was born too), and Motorworld and Merc museums also look good if we've got time

Some fascinating cars in the dealership - we saw a Carrera GT with every panel removed under test for an over-heating issue.

The Mercedes factory at Sindelfingen is also worth a visit - the scale of the place is immense..majordad said:
It's not free entry with an Official Porsche Club Membership Card , it's entry at half price, €4 instead of €8, except of course as already pointed out free on your birthday.
