Are people actually paying anywhere near £600K for a 111R?

If so that's absolutely, utterly mental.

You could spec and import a Singer for under £500K. Different cars I know.

I think the CGT is worth that though. They were seriously undervalued for several years but have now caught up. It's a proper supercar with an amazing engine whereas the 111R just seems to be a very good 911.

You only need one guy to buy one car at that price point and everyone in the market will quote it as the 'market value'. Of course I fully appreciate they are currently selling for significant overs...the one I 'heard' started with a 4-handle. TH is quoting a 6-handle or even greater for effect....but like I said, maybe one footballer/royal/popstar/etc paid that much

CGT is the pinnacle for me. Even on the original crap Miches that it came with it was spectacularly good. The best drivers car that I've ever driven and probably the best sports prototype that was never built. The only car that I would part with a 996RS for.

You wouldn't need something starting with a 6 to get a CGT anyway. The recent one at Silverstone didn't reach it's estimate at £480 iirc.

And that video is so riddled with errors it's actually embarassing. the R is a lot less limited production than the GT? Assuming my maths still works, there are 991 Rs but 1270 CGTs (ok not accounting for goodness how many that have been written off now but unlikely 300)... and the cgt while potentially an intimidating car to drive, it's only really so for people used to being mollycoddled by heaps of electronics on a 1450kg/600+hp car (I'm one I will admit). A car that 'tries to kill you everytime you get in it' and 'very hairy to drive' especialy on the public road, it most assuredly is not.

DK Engineering have one PoA but I think I have seen it advertised by them somewhere for £550k.

The only reason to buy a 911 R at that price is if you already own a CGT.

Hello from From far away . Just here to say I couldn't agree more .
My absolute all time favourite car built after 1973 , can be so sideways and mental .
A wise man once said "the carrera gt has an abundance of mechanical grip over tyre grip , the sign of an extremely capable chassis " (I hope I got that right mr Rance as I tried to memorise it years ago ).

It's actually an insult to compare these cars , a special 911 with arguably the greatest , most usable and reliable analogue supercar . The carrera gt is a life affirming experience a truly special machine . It's so direct and alive , it communicates so well and is such a rewardi to get right . On a track it becomes something else entirely . I just can't explain how much I love this car . If I could only ever drive one car , it would be the gt . The only Supercar that's close is an f50.

It's true though mate .
I am lucky enough to have experienced every single car I have ever wished to (250gto , gt1 , f1 Mac , you name it) and own all that I ever dreamt of . I say dreamt because I never expected .

The gt reigns supreme , like I said the only close Supercar is the f50 .

I love that car too but the Cgt is utterly indestructible and on another level of performance yet still exploitable . The car is just magic . 918 , p1 etc not even worthy of comparison . Let alone a humble 911

Evening R. I have absolutely no idea, but given the choice of a year in an R or a weekend in a CGT, I'd take a weekend in the one with a V10 mounted amidships, rather than the one whose engine bay looks to have been designed by a tumble drier engineer .......

I think you're painting all Porsche enthusiasts as shallow, PDK loving flippers 'old chap', which is a little patronising.

Agreed there are a significant contingent of these, and that remains disappointing, however many have been awakened to the absolute delight of driving a manual aircooled.

It's been well documented threat the CGT can be a handful, and therefore it remains uber cool to state they are the ultimate. Parts are stratospherically expensive, they are LHD and the clutch can be 'challenging' to say the least. They are that price for a reason.


Just because some can't drive down the pit lane with their door open on a 'billy' track day, or aren't clad head to toe in nomex, doesn't make all enthusiasts 'clueless' collectors.

You too my friend . Unfortunately , I'm still in the badlands and have not experienced her . The few hours I did drive it however were fantastic . It's on intrax and way too firm . When I get back to uk I'll put her back to standard or do the parr thing we discussed
