Haynes Manual - whats the difference?
Discussion
I feel I should own a Haynes manual for my car, even just so I know where things are if I need to find them.
But, whats the difference if any between:
Porsche 911, 1965-89 Coupe, Targa and Cabriolet Automotive Repair Manual.
and
Porsche 911, 1965-85 Coupe and Targa Owner's Workshop Manual.
Thanks
Dom

You may find one is the American version the other isn't. My missus had a 924 and I bought a Haynes manual for it. Nice thick hardback book that told you everything you needed to know. Then she changed car and bought a 944. The Haynes manual for that is an American one. It cost more, is half the size and tells you briefly how everything works but then suggests that the job is too much for the home mechanic and tells you to take it to your nearest shop (I tried this but they didn't know what I was talking about in the Spar down the road.....).
For example, the 924 book gives you a complete remove, stripdown and reassembly instructions for a gearbox overhaul. The 944 book says that it's too complicated and to leave it to your dealer. Without having the two cars side by side, I can't tell, but the gearboxes look pretty similar to me. I suspect the yanks are too worried about getting sued when some plomker injures himself trying to remove his engine with a pair of pliers and a bent bike spanner!

Dunno.....i used manual number 264 on my 3.2 carrera...which is the '65-85 one.....there was a supplement in the back for later models...the book wasn't that much use really.
I guess the 65-89 one has the supplement at the back included in the main text?
only significant difference between an 85 onward 3.2 would be the G50 G/cox used over 915 from '86 model year....
I would invest in a pet disc if i was you, it will at least tell you the parts on your model year from an exploded diagram, rather than looking at a piccy from a 1974 in haynes.
