A lovely 911 Turbo LE from 1989. Rare indeed, and this one is unused with only 179 miles on it !!!!

Must have been in a collection somewhere.

Title edited to add up!

A beautiful car, I don't know if I could bring myself to actually drive such a low mileage pristine example, which should really be kept for future generations to gawp at.

It's a sad waste really. V. low miles cars like this are in an awkward "position" to my mind.

What do you do with it?

Very likely pay a high premium and if you use it, totally kill the premium you paid within a short time.

Or, just look at it. And I don't think that would be too much fun.

Yeah - from one collector to another is the only way that makes any (financial) sense. Shame really.

I agree.

Owning it would be a curious mixture of pleasure and pain.

Pleasure because it is a lovely example of a beautiful thing. And in such perfect condition, it would like owning a new car of the kind of "newness" that current new cars don't provide ( if you know what I mean ).

They simply don't make cars like that anymore. And to experience that as new , is a rare privilige in my book.

On the other hand, using it as the maker intended would remove its inherent uniqueness.

As a summer time toy to tuck up in a de humidified garage , it would be lovely.

And think of all the cups you would win at Porsche Club events !

T/S, on the basis you found this car, would we be correct in assuming you are looking for a classic 911?

It's never been registered and looking for £75k!

I think that, if I bought it, I'd have to use it.

Is the price about right?

Price is too high - there is a premium for this kind of background, but it ain`t as much as that!

And then replace all the seals, tyres, brake fluid, flexible hoses etc., etc.

We're probably getting as much 'pleasure' from the car as the owner did; maybe more infact as we can mock him too!

A chap where I used to work had one of those.

It really is a dead nice motor. I never went in it, but I certainly had a pretty good look at it. I was working late one evening, I had the window open and he was sitting there just giving it some.

They sound pretty smart too.

Lovely car, black is the best colour for 930 turbo's IMO. I think the LE's had the same engine as fitted to the flatnose turbo which had 330 bhp as opposed to 300 for the standard turbo.

Back in '89, these cars were frequently bought by speculators who sold them on for huge profits. Some LE's were sold for 120-130K in '89 but some ended up with badly burnt fingers when the recession hit in '90 and the bottom fell out of the classic car/supercar market.

I think they'll have to drop the price a fair bit to sell. Personally, I'd sooner buy an LE with 30-40K miles for a lot less and not worry about the milage creeping up.

Oh so true, and the rest. This car is as likely to be a total disaster as it is a dream buy.

Absolutely stunning, but definitely a collection vehicle. I also would prefer a clean 'used' car that I could drive.

Hmmm, I know what I would do with it. In fact a few years ago 911&PW features a similar guards red 5 speed coupe with just 4000 miles on the clock. It was bought by one of my customers and the turbo let go within 300 miles. That car ended up with: K27/28 hybrid, intercooler, headers, wastegate, boost controller, 964 cams should be good for over 400bhp; lower 30mm & fit a set of torsion bars & bilsteins, big reds all round & 18" wheels to clear the calipers.

In other words buy it and get out there and use it for what it was designed for.

Actually the price is not bad....I had one mate who bought a 1988 930 in the boom of 1990 (post Porsche announcing the death of the turbo) and paid reputedly £100,000 ish to a main dealer (no sh*t!) for a 6000 mile example. Oh, the benefit of hindsight.

9M just recall the speculative money that was chasing 959's at this time,,,we didn't know until Dec '96 that this was known as "Irrational Exuberance" (A. Greenspan)
