GT4 Wheel Refurb - Surrey

Took the GT4 out for a NYE run, and managed to kerb the edge of one of the alloys. Really, really annoying.

Have had a (high) quote from an OPC, who 'send it off on a van to another company', so I figured I'd try some well reputed wheel refurbishers myself.

I much prefer the idea of them coming to me to take the wheel away, to then return and refit a few days later, than leaving my car and the keys at a refurbishers.

Any thoughts/experience on these?

Lepsons have a very,very good reputation. They did some wheels for me quite a few years ago, very pleased with them.

Exel. Chris uses Lepsons, but can provide replacement wheels whilst yours is being refurbed. He has very high quality control processes with them. Great service.

I used Exel for my 993 C2S and the family Mini. He shows up, leaves the car on spare wheels which you're welcome to drive on and then comes back with shiny repaired wheels a few days later. We had great service from Chris, he did exactly what he said he would, he really knows the small details of the technical differences between wheels and on top of this also offered a very good balanced advice on tyre choices (at very competitive prices too).

The quality of the refurbishment was also very good - they took a gentle approach to my hollow spoke turbo alloys to address corrosion without machining things that didn't need it. All in all, a really good experience.

It was a very gentle glancing blow on a front when pulling out of a tight junction - what do you reckon the chances are that I have knocked the geo out?

He did one wheel for me when I had a 996T, so worth a chase if you haven't already had it done.

I took my set of wheels to Lepsons having abandoned Exel due to poor response. Lepsons did a great job and delivered them back to me afterwards.

Thanks. I ended up selling the car, kerbed alloy an' all. I wouldn't recommend this as a regular solution though.

Another vote for Lepsons.
Only downside is that you'll probably need to send your wheel off and wait for it to get repaired and couriered back. Benefit of Exel is the loan wheels which would keep you moving.

Pristine at Woburn Sands are very impressive, far better than Lepsons/Excel in my experience.

I think its luck of the draw, I'd use Excel as they did a very good job on my Boxster wheels. I'll never use Pristine again as they did a very expensive refurb of my V8 Esprit split rims and the centres were bubbling in less than a year.

But as I say, luck of the draw.

I'm not sure Excel will have replacement wheels for a GT4 though.

I've used Lepsons directly and via Chris at Exel on multiple occasions. Times I have gone directly to Lepsons is when Chris has been too busy to collect wheels when I needed them doing.

My advice would be to avoid Wheel Wizards in Byfleet. Needed a quick job done that was ok at best. In hindsight colour match was poor and owner was a bit stuffy and odd. Had the wheel redone by Lepsons and is now as it should be.

TBF, and IME Chris is a bit of a perfectionist, so perhaps merely reluctant to do just one wheel which then, potentially, might not be a perfect match with the other three.

Call your dealer and ask who they use for refurbs, they'll tell you. Shouldn't be more than 150 quid depending on how bad it is. A lot less hassle as they should come to your house.

Ditto.

To be fair, when I had all 4 done he did a great job.... but since he's moved away from the area and started taking on dealer work more, he seems less interested in single/pairs of wheels. Who can blame him though? not enough margin in it for one/two wheels I'd imagine.
