996 tire sizes

I understand that each car has a specified tire size. When I put my reg into something like blackcircles to get some quotes, it brings up different sizes to those that are fitted to mt car. It says 235x40x18 up front and 285x30x18 on the rear, whereas mine are actually 225x40x18 up front and 265x35x18 on the rear. Standard wheels, can anyone tell me which is right please before I order the tires?

The tyres currently on your car are the correct ones. For reference, Porsche UK actually list the approved summer and winter tyres for every Porsche vehicle on their website, see following link and downloadable PDFs:

The also shows approved tyre manufacturer and type which has the "N" rating, i.e. formally homologated by Porsche for use with that vehicle

For info I contacted Jamie McWhir, Michelin UK Technical Director on tyre choice - I have a 2003 996 C4. There are no current plans to N-rate any more Michelin tyres for the 996. From what I've heard the PS4s are better, but you can't buy them in 996 rear sizes. - Anything is better then the PS2's currently on it.After a bit of research and his advice I switched from N-rated ContiSports to the N-rated Michelin PS2s, which seem better

You're right I stand corrected. The 996.1 and 996.2 have slightly different tyre sizes (I don't know why) and Michelin do make PS4s to fit the 996.1. But not the 996.2 ??Wonderful tyres.
I've only just got my 996 so I'm still a bit excited. Mine has 997 18 inch wheels with 225 40 and 265 35 tyres. I can't believe how much grip there is. Are you guys seriously looking for more grippy tyres because you can or because you need more grip? Yes that's a serious question so please be honest!

It's a good question. I've had my 996 for two and a half years, and initially thought, why would anyone need more grip, or power for that matter? I was running N- rated Continental ContiSports, which seemed very good and progressive. However once you get used to it, it's always good to expand the performance "envelope" a little. So when I moved to Michelin PS2s I did feel and appreciate the noticeable increase in grip. Just need to save the pennies for a 997.2 Carerra S to sort out the power issue....
