Macan diesel or not??????
Discussion
I think petrol has come back into favour because of lower oil prices. If oil prices went up significantly then the pendulum is likely to swing back in favour of the better fuel consumption of diesel.
I've driven both petrol and diesel Macans and like them both. There's no difference in refinement and very little difference in performance. It's the power delivery that differs, which may suit different tastes.
Not much will change in the short term, and the Macan Diesel is Euro 6 compliant, but eventually 'hybrid' and the like will usurp both diesel and petrol.

With the news over diesel banning in city's, buying a diesel Macan seams crazy, I have a deposit on a June/ July build, but I'm considering pulling my deposit. Or switching to a petrol? Views welcome
I had a Macan Diesel, the engine suits the car perfectly in my view, and has great economy and hence range.I don't get the current revolt against diesels - in all honesty, its about older heavy polluting diesel engines, modern euro 4 & 5 engines are every bit as clean as petrol equivalents.
Whatever happens, we're many years away from Petrol engines matching the driveability and economy of a diesel engine. Perfect example is my F10 535d touring. Massively quick, refined, quiet, economical, 600 mile range. BMW make great petrol engines, but nothing matches the 535d yet..

It is not just about older engines - far from it. As demonstrated by Transport for London tests conducted at Millbrook and reported in today's Sunday Times. The current VW Polo 1.4 diesel was worst performing car with NO2 emissions 13 times EU upper limit - and more than a diesel lorry tested at the same time. I think this question is going to come up a lot now that Diesel is getting so much negativity not only with Porsche but all other cars that all seem to have good Diesel engines. I would be thinking petrol but those Diesels with all there torque similar performance and far better mpg makes the decision very hard right now imo.Discombobulate said:

Reading that article it seems the issue with smaller cars is that they don't include all the emissions tech they can either because of space or price. The VW Passat diesel was the best they tested.I think what we know from Dieselgate is that the emissions tests are a blunt instrument and not fit for purpose....sounds like the tech is there bit the manufacturers don't use it.
I get a 20yr old diesel commuter train into London every day...f

Your train is only 20 years old? Lucky you I think what we know from Dieselgate is that the emissions tests are a blunt instrument and not fit for purpose....sounds like the tech is there bit the manufacturers don't use it.

not meant as argumentative but just facts. I've read up on this for last 2 years and mother in law has severe breathing difficulties - when she comes to London to visit, she suffers.
Sorry she's suffering however it's highly likely older taxis, buses and non Euro 6 compliant diesel vehicles are causing the issue, not a new Macan or whatever. The most polluted road in London is.............Oxford Street.
And guess what........non-commercial vehicles are banned from that road.
Don't forget it's only diesel vehicles manufactured prior to around 2005 that will pay the additional charge.

Depends whether you are planning to lease it or looking to own it at the end of your finance agreement/buy it outright.
If leasing then you've got an escape route should the government impose "sanctions" on diesels.
If buying then be wary as you could potentially end up with a car that has its value knocked down by these rumoured "sanctions".
Personal preference for me would always be a petrol.

Petrol Macan's hold their value better if this makes it easier. However, I know with the new Panamera the petrol and hybrid cars had longer wait times for delivery slots...bot sure if that is still the case.
I've been having similar thoughts about my S D order following recent media reports. It's very difficult to feel confident about the truth.

Meanwhile, have you noticed there's been a spec reconfiguration and price adjustment for at least the Macan if not all Porsches.? Noticed the other day. It makes my build more expensive so another reason to reconsider.
