Well, just had a quote for major service including plugs from a dealer in the West Country with a magic roundabout nearby, and even with a bit of discount comes in at £1252 with the brake fluid change. I have used a specialist in north Cotswolds for non service work and I am very impressed, and would always use them for non service work, and at about £600 cheaper for the same work to be done as opc I really feel like I should move away.

However, car has not left this dealer for servicing before, and at only 9k miles on a 56plate 997 turbo has gone up in value since i bought it 4 years ago. If I did sell it, I am sure an enthusiast would buy it as it would be more expensive than the rest of the market.

Has anyone any experience of such a low mileage car, without opc history being worth a lot less? Or should I just pay up?!

On an unusually low mileage car like yours its worth keeping it at original dealer - it should pay itself back - in a few years you may even get list for your car if its a manual. it is annoying and I've been in exactly the same position. In my case one OPC wanted £1200 for the same service you are having and OPC Cambridge was willing to do all the same work for £800! Exactly the same work went through it with both service advisers line by line. Opted for the more expensive service in the end in order to keep the cars unique history at supplying OPC all its life.

Hi Lingus, do you mind me asking which specialist you are using in the north Cotswolds? I am using Tewkesbury OPC for my servicing. Not exactly cheap but I still have my car under warranty until May 2018; I might look to come out of the network after then.

At an average of 800 miles a year you really are providing the next owner with a nearly new car for market price.

It will be a bargain for the next owner. I hope you make a profit over and above your storage, servicing, tax and insurance costs.

Seems a shame to spoil such a great provenance. If you dont put any more miles on it you will probably get maximum market price?

Each to their own. Good Luck

A minor service with 6 year maintence plus brake fluid was over £1200 on a 997.2 C4S at the next dealer along the M4 up to London.

Wouldn't trust that particular mob to work on a tonka toy without wrecking it after that one and definitely last experience.

Forget provenance, get a good indie and proper Porsche enthusiasts will be happier than if it's OPC.

My 996 turbo X50 goes to Jaz in St.Albans and I'm much happier than it going into an OPC.

Service it properly, drive it, enjoy it.

Don't save it for the next investor!

Cotswold Porsche in Toddington, so really close to Tewkesbury. Just to give you an idea, I had a creaking after I had the clutch slave done by them (again £300 cheaper than OPC). Everyone and their dog said coffin arm, even the indie said it must be that. However, after a bit of head scratching they said to try the tie rod end. Even though they had never replaced one, or heard of one going (they service a few gt3 cup cars so know their stuff), they thought it was likely to be the culprit and was only £65.

I had a good geometry specialist get the car on the ramp and test the bushes and bearings and even they said coffin arm. So, I bought a tie rod end, got it replaced and the creaking went! Rang them to say it had stopped and they said, 'thought that was it'! Saved about £800 that time.

Didnt I meet you one early morning in the Shell Garage on Landsdown Road Cheltenham? You have a Meteor grey car too? I think you had your son with you?

Storage costs nothing as I have a nice garage with power for the trickle charger. Insurance is £350 a year, tax is a bh though. Servicing has been only cost apart from clutch slave and tie rod end, so hasnt been an expensive car really.

Let me ask the wife about your girlfriend......

I know it sounds silly with such little use, but I do drive it when I feel like it, and it also has two child seats in the back. The kids love coming out for a spin, so it is used... Just not much. I honestly like to know I have it, enjoy cleaning it after a decent run which for me is only 60 miles plus, usually out to work in Cheltenham, or early morning Fosseway run, but only in warmer months!

I have one of the top Indies willing to pay good money (not enough to even think about parting with it), so its nice to know my money is safe and would be able to be liquidated within 24 hours for some sort of massive emergency!

I have heard the logic of keeping a service history all OPC but the same OPC ?!?!! I don't think anyone would give a stuff about that though some prefer all OPC.

There again my 997t has done 33k now and I only use two respected indies and would consider their servicing to be as desirable as an OPC if I was buying my car

I would sugggest that a decent Porsche Indy on the service stamp is just as good as OPC.

You see some extremely expensive rare Porsche being sold at places like JZM which seldom have solely
OPC stamps.
In general OPC are a rip off .

Not a snowflakes chance in hell of recouping the £400 extra on this occasion never mind the next for having all the services done by the supplying Opc.

That's before you take into account the savings with an indi.

The dealers must love folk like you , it's easy money for them no wonder they get away with what they charge.

Agree - if the indy is well known and respected then any buyer who knows their stuff will realise that this probably means better care and maintenance than the OPC!

I wish I had a decent local Porsche specialist, there's millions to choose from down south but seemingly none anywhere near Aberdeen. Will have to be the OPC for me - got a quote of £400 for a major service for my 996, so around £150 more than a specialist from what I've seen.
My car has almost a complete OPC and Porsche specialist history and, in terms of resale desirability, it was the huge stack of invoices and stamps from RPM Specialist Cars that swayed me to the car more than the similar number of OPC stamps.

I can see both sides to the arguement. I think I will call jzm or one of the other good indies to see if they would be bidding much lower for non opc service. After all I wouldn't sell this privately unless to someone in pcgb or of the forum.

Might get opc to do basics and Indy to look at plugs as I can't abide the £500 cost opc want! And I wouldn't think they need doing after 6k miles... would they?

There are 2 excellent specialists in Edinburgh. Brian Millar and David Philips. From previous experience I wouldn't buy a spark plug from the Aberdeen OPC. That goes for the side of the business with the Land Rover franchise also.

That's right...... a few years ago now I think. I still have the same car but it has a few more miles on it now.... now at about 43k. However, over the last year or so the mileage has gone right down and I have just bought a Macan so it will get even less use.

Your positive comments about the indie at Toddington are interesting. I have seen the advertisements but I have not visited them yet. Seems like it might be an option for items not requiring a stamp in the book. I did once try another indie in Glos for one of my earlier cars but it wasn't a good experience..........

On the spark plugs issue, I would get them changed just to be on the safe side. I once had a motorbike that lost the core of a spark plug when the engine was at huge revs...... not pretty! However, when I last had my plugs changed on the 997T it wasn't an easy job and the OPC struggled to get them out.

If you speak to Lesley Davies at OPC Cambridge they can do a spark plug service for circa £750 inc vat on a 997 turbo - its a pretty good deal for an OPC.

Hatfield is by far one of the dearer ones for everything.

They will price match but expect them to give you a dirty look like you've sworn at them.

Having supplying dealer only service is a wondrous thing and can be a real attraction. My first performance car had it and it was a big factor in my buying decision.

However, it is a real shame to see a car not being used. 9K really? If you're wanting an investment car just take it off the road or even get the OPC to store it and just service it annually for you. Saves the mileage to the dealer and I'm sure they would do you a deal on a long term service plan.

I don't think it'll make any difference at all....the mileage will mean it's an expensive enough car as it is should you ever sell it. Service history will look great but won't add value IMHO as long as you go somewhere decent.
