- Remove wheel
- Remove arch liner
- Remove the lower/outer PU screws (T25/T30)
- Remove the wing brace (M6 10mm to wing and body)
-Remove the external torx bolts holding the coolant hose bracket and the small radiator bracket (E10 M6 to radiator and bracket)
- Slide small radiator bracket off of centre mount on radiator
- Remove the spring clips and washers holding the radiator bracket to the radiator
- Remove the radiator bracket fixings (M8 13mm to body)
- Pull the radiator bracket down and out, at the same time, lift the radiator up slightly; the bracket will drop off of the radiator pins (where the clips and washers were); watch out for the coolant hose bracket.

Fan shroud is then accessible

- Remove fan shroud c/w fan
- Remove fan from shroud

Grease the rubber grommets prior to refitting the metal bracket - makes them easier to fit back in/on.

Watch out for the coolant hose holder when refitting (can go 'the wrong side')

The method listed by Pope is indeed possible if you have the car up on a lift with good accessablity.

If you are doing it on the floor at home and encounter rusty/seized bolts and clips, removing the front PU does make access a whole lot easier.

Removing the PU is easy and there are guides on this site with pictures. Its almost a regular maintenance item!

It will give you the opportunity to properly clean the crud from between the condencers and radiators as well as do a general tidy up of the rusted radiator frames.

Just a thought. Is the fan the problem? It could be the fan control unit - it was on mine.

Ello.

While it's not 100% clear in the article below, it does look like it's possible to remove the fan without taking off the bumper - you just might graze your fingers a bit.
