I attach an email received from my father in law this morning. Were you chaps aware of this?

"You may be interested to know that there is a general recall on 993
cars for a replacement of the engine bay wiring loom, which apparently
is faulty and could cause unwarranted electrcal problems.I only
discovered this when I took my car to the Porsche centre(JCT600) in
Newcastle for rear tyres and front brake pads.I suggest you take your
car to AFN,which I think is your nearest Porsche centre and check if
the work has been done on your car.You will need your chassis
number. The replacement of the wiring loom takes about four hours so
they would need your car for most of one working day-no cost to you."

That recall related to the earliest 993's, and the problem related to the engine compartment wiring loom.
I'd be surprised if there are many 993's out there that haven't had the replacement made, as most of the affected cars should still have being going through OPCs for servicing when the fault was identified.

In a word, yes, but no harm mentioning it again.

I can remember fights with Porsche when they denied the problem a few years back

I bought my 993 two years ago and virtually straight away had the wiring loom recall. It was done by Porsche Reading who took it away themselves and returned it the next day gleaming and new. It was about 4 hours work, I believe, and done FOC. The engine bay looks luuuuvely!! My car is a 1994 model C2, and I think that the recall was for cars up to aprox.1995 (but I might be wrong!) Ring your local OPC with chassis No. and get them to check.

Hmmm

I'd be surprised if they were all fixed...
I went looking for a 993 and questioned each independant about the recall, and guess what..............They didn't have a clue about the recall, I kid you not.....

The point is that Porsche GB need to know that you own the car!

In the back of the cars Owners Manual is a series of tear out post cards, that each subsiquent new owner should to fill out and send back to Reading.

By doing this, you get registered on the PCGB database, you get all recall notices, a free Christophorus subscription and loads of junk mail.

The problem is after 4-5 owners there are no post cards left in the Owners Manual and subsiquent owners dont get the benefit of this customer service!

You're right , 10yrs down the line info gets lost.
By the way, have you had any more probs with vandalism in the Windsor area? I have been worried ever since your post!

And if you are worried take your car down to your local OPC who will check it free of charge.
