Coloured wheel centre corrosion?

Has anyone had trouble with coloured wheel centres corroding? I'm on my 2nd set on an 18 month old 991.1 I only ph neutral snow foam to clean then nothing aggressive.

I have the exact same problem on the turbo wheels on my Cayenne. Only use acid free cleaner.

If you find a solution I'd be interested to hear it.

The car is well pampered, with limited use in the winter, Porsche have changed them with no issues under warranty, but considering my 10 year old Cayman has the same cleaning methods and has similar levels of corrosion I can only think the quality of the newer coloured centres are inferior?

last car I had with them I swapped the genuine ones for ebay copies (looked exactly same) when I bought it and refitted genuine ones when I sold it

Mine (997 turbo) have gone within a year of ownership - but the car is parked outside so perhaps not surprising.

It is a little disappointing though and if I were ever to sell (as if!!) I would get new ones at that point.

^ agreed. I have a 12 month old CGTS that lives outside and it's washed with Halfords or Tesco's car shampoo when I can be bothered. No issue with the wheel centres.

Sometimes its left on too long or not rinsed properly etc. Or just too caustic or acidic. Happened on my Audi.

Like I said I only use ph neatral snow foam solution, not acidic or alkaline

Not a bad idea but does seem to be letting Porsche off the hook a little don't you think?

Are the caps plastic or aluminium. Are they lacquered as well? Just trying to work out what kind of damage it is.

I'm not an expert, just had similar issues and even good "PH Neutral" cleaners can cause damage given time.

Doubtful Porsche make them and it seems they happen to all car brands. But yes, they should hold up to this sort of use regrardless. Especially that they are almost entirely cosmetic.

There plastic caps, painted and lacquered, they push in so I suppose I could remove them after cleaning.

I've had the same problem with my 2016 Cayenne, they've been replaced once already under warranty, the replacements have no gone the same way!

I would think road salt getting in behind the layers would not help

My none coloured centres went exactly the same way after 12 months, bought a £15 coloured set from eBay 12 months latter these are still good as new.

Agree, spoils the look of the wheels and not acceptable considering the price, mine will be going back until they get it right
