997.1 Phone connection (For calls and music)

Hi,

Had a quick search but cant seem to find anything.

I'm looking for a solution to connect my iPhone to my unit, it has the phone kit (sim card availability).

I have had a Parrot in previous cars and would go for this again but before I go down that route I just wondered if there is a better option?

Take the drivers seat out and you find the phone module under the drivers seat (the websites describing the installation are US and describe it as under the passenger seat they drive from the wrong seat! ) remove it and replace it with a Dension 500S BT (use the fibre optics that run to the phone kit, power from the fuse box and earth to a ring tag on a bolt on the floor - job done!) run the mic up to the dash or a post and run a permenant +12v from the fuse box. I put the USB lead that comes with it in the glovebox.

Took a lesurely morning (with coffee breaks)

Provides Bluetooth phone and music streaming (A2DP), plays MP3's from a USB stick and 3.5mm from anything else. Has an optional cable to connect an iPod and does txt and track info from the id3 tags on the MP3 and the iPod and the A2DP connection as well.

Update the maps and PCM sw (about £30 for 'backup disks' from various places) - finds the new roads and does 4 character postcodes (quaint but usable).

Basically it does all the stuff that's missing from PCM2.1 and PCM3 to make it up to date, only remaining thing is the PCM2.1 screen is a bit small compared to the latest cars, about £350 all in.

If you want someone to fit it then I think Dension have a number of distributors who can - Mobridge also but that box was more expensive.

Easiest place to install it is under the bonnet where the CD drive is - in which case it's less than an hour (and that's taking your time), I spent longer because tea needed drinking and I'm familiar with fibre optic cables (from work years ago) and I wanted to clean out the under bonnet area anyway.

the interface is a little clunky (they all are as they pretend to be a CD drive with loads of tracks on it - they are limited by the PCM itself) but the sound is good and the phone integration is also good.

give your chosen provider a call and ask for a suggested installer local to you - I'm sure they will help
