These horrible vehicles seem utterly pointless to me. I own an normal Cayenne which is a perfectly functional thing. Why I would want as coupe version mystifies me..... ugly and purposleless.

As another Cayenne owner I quite agree. The X6 is just wrong....

Better off just sticking to a Panamera Coupe.

Personally I like the look of the X6, form over function yes, but aren't a lot of cars like that? I really don't see the problem if the FF version is still available.

I'm on my 2nd Cayenne and would definitely order a coupe next if available.

The Cayenne itself is equally pointless if you think about it.

Not for me I stay with X5 as I need 7 seats and like some comfort, but I think the X6 looks good and I'm sure Porsche will make a cool Cayenne coupe.

I do believe a lot of people do secretly like the looks of an x6, or at least they don't dislike it..

I can't quite put my finger on it... Maybe it's many following the herd and pretend to hate something? It's quite bizarre.

It amazes me time and again why people spend their hard earned cash on a car which is the worst of many worlds

Are you kidding? Surely that applies to a 911 or a Cayman or a Boxster or a myriad of other cars as well??!! My CGTS is 'the worst' at deep snow, muddy fields, towing a horse box, lugging a chest of drawers around, fitting 3 people in, doing 50mpg, being a cabrio....see the irony of your statement?

People have HARD EARNED CASH and they can surely buy whatever they want, no?

As for the X6, I really don't see many around but they seem to tread a fine line when it comes to looks. I've seen ones that look hilariously under wheeled which adds to the heft of the thing. I have seen ones which have a Gemballa bodykit and just look utterly awful to my eyes...but I've also seen some which see to just look pretty damn good.

If anyone has seen the concept for the electric F-Pace coupe (i-pace?), that looks fantastic...but would fall into the same 'pointless' category of the above posters. To be brutally fair, the Macan is almost X6-like in it's function as it feels small and less capacious inside. A coupe Cayenne or Macan by Porsche could be a great thing for whomever chooses to buy one.

I used to have a 7 seat X5 and realised we'd used the extra row of seats once in the previous year so when time came to replacement it's a Cayenne.

You might think a Cayenne is pointless but it drives better than an X5, is better built has a more capable chassis/suspension (lockable diff's for example) etc X5 is a great car but the Cayenne is better IMHO One huge benefit for us is the fact you can lower the suspension....we've encountered problems in the X5 accessing underground car parks with a roof box on ski trips. Cayenne suspension can be lowered which is a huge help!

I know you did, I own it smile

The point was to call one car pointless is a bit silly, we buy cars for different reasons. If I only needed 4 seats I would've considered the likes of the X6, or probably something more exciting.

I use the 3rd row seating weekly, wouldn't have a car without it.

Did you actually read my post?

A Boxster/Cayman is great at being a sports car (especially for the road) - and for these strengths it has downsides in other areas.. A GT3 is a great sports car on the track that delivers lots of enjoyment on the road too - and for these strengths it has downsides in other areas.

I am still struggling to see the upside of an X6-type of car though. That is very different from wanting to preclude people to spend their money on what they want to

You mean the one I quoted which said, "It amazes me time and again why people spend their hard earned cash on a car which is the worst of many worlds"? Yeah. Explain to me how my response is not 100% appropriate to your sentence there.

The worst of many worlds - I pointed out that SEVERAL cars are "the worst of many worlds". The X6 is fricking awesome at being a big hefty BMW coupe on jacked up suspension.

Without knowing the exact numbers I'd hazard a guess that the X6 sells at least as well as the X5 so that's reason enough for PAG to milk the SUV cash cow further. It's what the company is mainly about these days and it's certainly the main profit driver for them. I'd save the irritation for when they release a RS macan and/or cayenne.... hehe

I think we're in a golden age for cars right now. The reliability and efficiency of most cars these days is incredible. I'm old enough to remember when all cars broke down, rotted away or were plain old crap at a lot of things. Looks wise, there's never been such variety and so many good looking cars. There's so much flair in so many categories from small cars to SUV to niche cars to Supercars. If anything, those old three box rep saloons, BMW 3/5 series, Merc C/E class, Mondeo's, Insignia's, Passats and all the rest of them look really old and pointless to me. You sit low for no real tangible advantage. They scream Mr Bland Suburbia or I'm thrilled with myself for getting as far as lower middle management in a large corporate entity. And I certainly won't rock any boats. Consensus is king. I can't understand why someone would buy one of them over an SUV. And as SUV's go, there are plenty of two box versions. Why not some more original funky approaches. Hence I like the X6 and I'm sure the Cayenne coupe will be fantastic and look great.

The X6 is grotesque. As is Mercedes' homage to the concept, whatever it's called.

Detestable things.

I see it slightly differently - I think we have more choice than ever before in terms of segment, but the content of each segment seems to have narrowed. So you can have SUVs, SUV coupes, 2-seats, 4-seats, V8s, diesels, etc etc...pretty much any type or size of vehicle you could want...but once you decide what segment you're shopping in, the choice within there really comes down to price/looks...because most modern cars are so incredible capable at being cars. They are reliable, well equipped, etc, etc.

I think even those of us who kid ourselves we can drive, would struggle to really exploit the small differences between a Lambo or a Ferrari....or and M5 vs an E63S on the road.

I never saw the X6 as trying to pretend to be a coupe of a 'coupe' Cayenne being a coupe. Lots of cars have sloping read windows and don't shout coupe. A Vollkswagen Beetle is a two door car with a sloping back on it and no one would call it a coupe. I see it the X6 as more funky, more fun, less utilitarian shape. Some will like it and other don't. Some love the utilitarianism of the Land Rover for that reason alone. It's functionalism. Others think it's a blunt austere antiquated tank of ta think. Car makers are trying to appeal to as many tastes as possible which I would've thought is a very good thing. LEt's see it in the flesh. It could look great. I wouldn't get caught up on what it's meant to be. It might just be a cool looking thing. And it will probably do a lot of things incredibly well. And shared platforms are what make these cars affordable, more reliable, easier to fix and generally, the reason they gravitate towards the same set of mechanicals is because they're using the best available solution/approach for the job.

Cayenne drives like a dream, but remain a hideous, crass monstrosity of a car, that seems in my experience, to appeal to those with as much taste as Chris Brown. Private plate simply accentuates. Only the Bentley thing is uglier, which speaks volumes.

Of course its ugly but SUVs are big boxes. I have put 210,000KM on mine with about 50,000 towing another car on a trailer. It has set out in ten Canadian winters, offroaded in deserts, and has been the primary transport for three Great Danes. I have other cars but nothing comes close to it for all round functionality.

A great vehicle for long distance driving. I have another on order but will keep this one for dog-hauling. I looked at the far prettier Panamera station wagon but it failed the Great Dane capacity testsmile...and would hardly do well off road.

My main question on these coupe things is that they actually remove functionality..I fully understand that people should buy what they want, but if you accept that the Cayenne is ugly to start with, a Cayenne that does things worse..(less useful interior capacity) for no discernible benefit other than a horrible truncated body to my eyes, seems to be inexplicable

Apart from those who think it looks nice. There are people who bought there Rhodius too, and again, fair enough form them to make their choices.
