1990 911 C2 Engine and gearbox

So My porsche 911 C2 cabrio has about 160 000 km (100 000 Miles) on it and if i shift from 2nd to third there is a bang, like a metal on metal bang. So I went to a Porsche mechanic and he told me to get a new engine and gearbox ( engine is quite old and about to give up). So i thought ... "Engine swap", or "New expensive 964 engine". So I came here, what engine/gearbox should i get? The cheaper the better. I know very little about this so i ask the smarter ones, What engine and from where? (I live in Finland). I wish to keep this under 25 000€ but again, the cheaper the better.

Keep the original 964 C2 engine for originality (and matching numbers), perhaps upgrade if you want a few more bhp.

Send the engine and gearbox to the UK. Rebuild will be much less than the number you mentioned. I would recommend Unit Eleven in Warrington.

First thing I would do is take it to another mechanic.... From your brief post it sounds like the guy you took it to doesn't have a clue and I wouldn't trust an opinion so vague as to require a new engine AND gearbox.
Once you have had it properly diagnosed you can then decide on a course of remedial action. Unless there is further detail on what the original mechanic said?
100k miles is nothing for an a/c 911 engine and it should be good for significantly more than that without requiring anything more than scheduled servicing. Second opinion required.

First of all go and find a competent Porsche mechanic. It sounds like your chap does not know his arse from his elbow.
It could be quite simply an issue with the dual mass flywheel.
