Now some problems are nice to have, but this is one is truly wrecking my head.

Much as I love my 968CS, I miss my 911 and its time to go back, probably to a 993.

No problem you might say; choose your budget, this will give you your model and then just find a good one. Get it inspected if you are that way inclined and hand over the money. Easy!

So …step one - set a budget at 25-31 k. Now which model does this point to?

Well its obviously a manual 993 coupe, ‘cause that’s always been the one for me.

Better have a quick look at the 99, but I won’t like that because they are a bit clinical and lack soul apparently. After all I am definitely an air cooled man. Still, better test drive one just to be sure. Bugger that’s actually pretty good, no really good, and it’s a tip, which I had also discounted

So now I like 996 as well but in the back of my mind is RMS and ultimately getting into a 993 still feels more special.

So what’s next – try this lovely 993 C4S. Wow that’s great, but I thought I liked them lightweight and simple. After all I’d be looking at the 993RS is I had the money

Next is a straight 993 C2 manual – lovely; feels like I’m home again.

OK I’m getting this clear against its going to be a manual 993.

But is I go tip then I’ll use it for work which ultimatly means I’ll use it more and enjoy it more...and if I go for a Targa then my dear lady wife will love it rather than just ignore it and it will stay around for longer

I don’t expect anyone will have the answer but felt I wanted to gt it of my chest.

Specifically has anyone got lots of experience with C2 Vs C4s, also any 993 aficionado’s who moved to a 996

Finally any dyed in the wool manual guys who went for a tip.

Cheers all

Had 993 C4S and that was wonderful, now drive a 993 C2 and it's different but much more exploitable as a daily driver. The limits on the C4S were very high for public roads...

Hey, a lot of 993 Targa's are tips, have you driven one of those yet?

I am firmly of the belief that these cars need to be used regularly. If that means you have to get a tip, so be it.

If it's any consolation, everything you've just described is exactly what i've been going through for the last two months .
PLUS, everytime I think i've found the perfect car, I ring up the dealer only to be told "sorry sir, we've just sold it 15 minutes ago..."
Maybe I need to get out of bed earlier...

Driven all the aforementioned, inc 993 C4S. Nice car, but I wouldn't be true to the badgers if I didn't mention the 964 RS.

It is closer to the 968 CS in terms of character than the others you mention, even the 993 RS. Maybe that will appeal. You owe it to yourself to drive one.

I was initially impressed with the 993 C2, as it feels so modern. However, a few hundred miles on one and I got a bit bored. Not that quick or responsive, bit heavy. The 964 RS was much more alive. Of course, my 993 C2 driving mate didn't buy that for a minute, so I lent him the RS so he could see for himself.

I should mention that this was when I actually 'had' and RS, before Merkin Melv says owt (PS Respray next week according to my tech )

Thanks Domster

I did consider 964RS but really I am looking for something a bit softer as I want to use it on a daily basis when the sun shines and find even the CS not the greatest fun on the rough country roads near our house.

Expending family means track days are less frequent so the CS makes less sense now. They are however amazing. Its such a shame they didn't have a bit more power.

If I had two 911s I'm pretty sure the second would be a 964 RS, but I'll have to wait a few years for that

Agree on the 968CS being underpowered,,,still quicker than a 964RS on most B roads though!

I would go for a straightforward honest 993 C2....
you can then do some modification to suit your needs...A 993 RS is silly money in comparison and may not be much use to you with the expanding family you mention,,you can put layzee boy recliners in to access the rear compartment but it starts going away from the RS concept.

True. The 964RS would be airborn half the time

For what you need, a standard 993 C2 would be a great choice. You can uprate brakes, suspension etc if you want it more sporty, and character improves with the fitment of a sports exhaust. Remapping will see it just below 300bhp.

Even a well sorted 964 C2 would be an option if you wanted to save your pennies. They are an extraordinary bargain at the moment.

Had a 964 - loved it hence 993 this time. I do have to admit to being more impressed by the 966 than I wanted to be though

thanks for the imput guys - If anything I am probably swaying toward the 993 C4S, mainly becuase its the turbo without the blower, thought this one has a cheeky supercharger
