I know quite a few people have ordered these lately, how do you find them so far on road & track?

Hi Paul,

I have 265s on the rear and 235s on the front, about 100 quid each plus VAT and delivery, as you know from Mr Tyre Motorsport in Birmingham.

I would have had 225s on the front but they didn't have any in stock, the 235s seem just fine. I notice that my spare Michelin Cups have 285s on the rear. I'm not sure if 285 in SSR would be better for the rear or not.....the size chart is here:

www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=109350

Anyway, I have found the tyres to be fine. I think the grip in the dry is fine, even when cold. I think they are reasonable in the wet if it's just damp. I haven't made my mind up what they are like is really wet conditions as I have taken it easy in the rain.

I am off to Croft on Saturday, a track I know well. I'll let you know what I think of them after that.

However, it's worth pointing out that the SSR is THE ONLY tyre I have had on my car, I have nothing else to compare it to.

To be fair Paul.....at the price they are, why not just get some to test? Would you put 285s on the rear? What are the official standard sizes for 993 RS tyres anyway? I have no idea!!

Thanks JS.....I know everyone has ordered them as they were cheap, I just wanted to hear real world experiences from PH. I know quite a few PCGB guys who don't post here, who are happy enough.

Correct tyre sizes for 993RS are 225/40/18 front on an 8" rim and 265/35/18 rear on a 10" rim.....

I have a set of Do1J with 235 fronts (thanks Burzel ) yet to go on...My set of SSR's are coming with the 225 fronts & 265 rears...I specifically waited until these sizes were available...They seem to suit the rim size better and should suit my current Parr geometry set up.

As an aside, I finally got my car back from a minor respray at the weekend, not having driven it for a month I considered that I had not really missed it as much as i thought I would. I only did 60 miles or so, but I soon ot into the groove and really found the car as exciting as ever....a truly great 911...even though it has an un-fashionable 300bhp!

I've got a set - 235 & 265 (285 not available at the time) on a GT3. They're very good on the road - 2,500 Kms so far on the motorways in France and now Spain. Very comfortable and quiet with good road grip even on very wet and slippy Spanish roads - just have to be a little more carefull. I don't think I'll get to the 'ring until June but looking forward to seeing how they cope in comparison to the Mich Pilot 2. I'm going to order another set and store them until I need them.

I think they're great.
I'm running them now on my Nurburgring only 964RS and have found them to be very comparable with the Michelin Cup's in the dry, and mush better in the wet.
Because of the sizes available - I'm on 17's - I have to run 215's front and 245's rear, instead of 225's and 255's with the Michelin's.

At 100 quid each, even with less tread depth from new than a regular road tyre, I suspect it's cheaper to run them than regular road tyres. Although best not in Winter!
