First post, first Porsche

I've just paid the deposit on a 997.2 C2S, due to pick it up on the first weekend of September. So now the search is over I'm left twiddling my thumbs, looking at pictures of it and counting down the days. (Only 46 to go)

I do have a of question - (which may be daft).

Can anyone recommend a cheap but decent cover for it. I will be keeping it in the garage, but until I clear out the junk to make space, I will have to keep it outside for a month or two. As its paint work is immaculate I'm loath to end up spoiling that with bird poo and tree sap for the sake of a cheap cover.

Or do cheap covers blow about in the wind and slowly scratch shiny paint work ?

Or am I being way too fussy and I should just stop worrying. Afterall, I am going to drive it outside.

I would not bother. Unless the car is spotlessly clean you just end up marking the paintwork. Get it cleaned up and covered in a decent wax.

If it was me I would buy a indoor cover and outdoor cover !! Double bag it bought my indoor cover from OPC when I picked up my
Cayman in March nice fit and soft fleece on the inside

It has had some paint protection applied to it, cant recall the name at the moment. OK, I wont bother with a cover then.

Once the car is sitting on the drive I can imagine all sorts of reasons to be driving instead of sorting the garage space. Id better get a move on now then

Congrats, great choice of car
But why are you picking it up in September?? There's no way I could wait that long!

At least you have a month or two to sell/chuck your crap in the garage, if you procrastinate now you'll just get used to leaving the car outside and will probably never clear the garage space.

I didn't plan to buy it now and pick it up in Sept. That would be painful - it is painful.

I've been looking (dreaming) at getting a 911 for 25 years, but only recently found myself in a position to stop dreaming and start buying. Being a manual with the wheels, options and engine spec I wanted, they don't seem to come up often.

However, I've already booked holidays / events for each weekend in August, plus the car is having some detailing and a service etc., so I've no choice.

I suppose the 40+ days of waiting are actually insignificant compared to the 25 years I have been dreaming about it. Also gives me ages to wade through insurance quotes and plan a nice road trip.

Congratulations on the new car! you won't be disappointed. I have the 991.2 C2S and like you waited 25 years to attain it, so i know the feeling of elation when you actually get to own something you have aspired so long for! I chose to buy the Porsche product for around a £100 and i have to say, that whilst not the last word in cosseting comfort for your new car its a doodle to fit (less than 5 mins) and packs up into its own zipped cover when not in use. The windscreen sucker allows you to place it exactly in the right location each time you use it and the zip and toggles ensure a tight fit.

I certainly wouldn't be putting an outside cover on anything that wasn't super-clean!
