Prepping my car ready for lots more power - it's a 2003 996 c4 cabriolet. Not convinced with the handling at the moment. I'm no driving god, but it feels vague, way too light at the front and lots of understeer.

Looking on design911 they offer a kit with ohlins, rose jointed drop links and bigger ARB's all with poly bushes.

Not sure what's best to be honest, any advice welcome.

buy a coupe !! plus all older 911 are way to light up front hence the RSR is now mid engine and a 991 has the engine as far forward as a mid engine 458 these days lol.

911 steering is over rated imo.

on a serious note you need to spend about £5k on ajustable every thing and you still end up wit ha CAB which is not the best In a 996.

No point fitting £3k worth of Ohlins and not having any adjustment for cambers, toe etc.

My advice is sell it ;-) or a buy a 997.2 coupe.

If you already have the LS3 installed, I'd worry first about cab body stiffness to carry much much stiffer suspension joints and other components.

he states "lots more power " so that's mus tbe £££ and then if he has "lots more power " he will need "lots more brakes" :-)

I doubt £15k would even cover it.

as you know the R mods we speced up came to £35k lol to do it 100% right.

I had a conversation with Chris at CG about this (I own a 996 cab) and his recommendation was to not go stiffer than the M030 springs that Porsche specified for the cab as, otherwise, the chassis became rather more of a spring than is optimal.

i.e. purchase Ohlins R/T, remove the springs they come with, install Ohlins equivalents of the M030, install, fast-road alignment, profit.

That's the route I'm taking anyway - I'll sacrifice the last word in dynamic precision for the sheer pleasure of zooming through the British countryside with the roof down and the sun in the sky.

If you want a fast 996 Cab, but a turbo.

Unquestionably faster in a straight line - 215 bhp/ton vs 255 bhp/ton, but the turbo is 220kg heavier, that's three full grown men who are sitting in the car with you that you need to get round a corner, brake at the end of a straight, etc etc.

The turbo is a great car, but I'll stick with my C2.

Replace it with a Boxster if you want handling.
