Porsche to recall 22,000 cars over emissions software
Discussion
I have a 2015 Cayenne Diesel, do I care that it has a cheat device in it or doesn't do the emissions stated? Not really.
Not sure if this recall will be offered in the UK but unless the government decide they are going to retroactively hike the car tax I won't bother to get it done. The only way they can realistically reduce the emissions is to remap it to make it less powerful\slower so I'll stick to my faster more polluting ECU map thanks.

Called Porsche Head Office who told me they would be making an announcement soon to recall all Cayennes and have software updated around October time. Forums in USA say software update has caused problems, cars sluggish with many being taken back to dealers several times. I agree, I don't want my car changed but if I have to I will get it remapped after.
I wonder if Porsche will have to do the cringeworthy named "Building Trust Measure" that their sister companies have had to do as a consequence of some owners having "issues" with their VW's and Audis immediately after the "emissions update" despite them repeatedly saying it has no negative impact to performance, economy or reliability.

I haven't a diesel Porsche, I bought a petrol Turbo. Thankfully...
I do agree that, I also wouldn't let Porsche make any changes and to try keep my car original.
I believe many owners in Germany have already done this, but now the German Government have announced that they want all information from Audi Group about cars that haven't had the appropriate recall done, and they are threatening to deregister those cars, therefore enforcing owners to have the recall done...
Not sure that would happen here though.
Also worth noting that some German cities are trying to ban Diesel cars fullstop from some places, Stuttgart is one of them!
Diesel is certainly having a tough time now, and as far as I am concerned, thats a good thing.

New car Diesel sales were 20% down in the UK in July, the trade are trying to tough it out and maintain that there is nothing wrong, BUT, customers are starting to vote with their feet and look at petrol and petrol hybrid cars as an alternative. Manufacturers need to get their petrol offerings up to snuff pretty quickly if they want to maintain market share. Diesel values are only going to go one way I'm afraid, and this is before cities actually ban the things. The big 3 in Germany have really dropped the ball on this one in a very big way, but their arrogance has come back to bite them very hard. I feel sorry for anyone who bought an oil burner in good faith, but won't hold my breath on the manufacturers coming good with recompense.
Mines a diesel but it's Euro 6 compliant so it should be safe for a few years longer, none of the current plans for diesel bans have the Euro 6 cars in their sights. A petrol Cayenne makes no sense to me unless you are mega rich and can afford mid teens mpg.
I plan to keep this one for 4-5 years. If the value tanks it tanks, it will still be worth something to someone and it will owe me nothing so whatever I get for it will be a bonus.

The general public often follow media frenzy, rather than making considered decisions. Both petrol and diesel are in the same boat, but I would still buy petrol for a 'sports' car and diesel for a 'daily user'. They both have different driving characteristics that suit their uses and the mpg and range on diesels are hard to overlook.
But, for sure, hybrid and electric is the future, although Autocar and other mags have said quite firmly that petrol and diesel (especially Eu 6) still have plenty of life to run.

Its about time we banned diesel cars from hi pollution area's, it's a non starter for fuel now, tax the b
ds.My 2016 Cayenne S diesel is 209 - 215 g/km CO2 which is the same as a 911 Turbo S or a Macan Turbo.
Its also only £285 per year to tax... Doesn't sound like a big polluter does it?
The diesel van in front of me this morning chucking out plumes of smoke however....?!
There are diesels and there are diesels....

This is also why I bought a new diesel Cayenne, no real alternatives available yet. The hybrid is not quite their and I had the petrol version previously which was very heavy on petrol for London traffic. The new diesels are just as quiet as petrol but provide far more range. My local OPC is playing dumb on the recall but not fussed as US forums are reporting back that the cars are not as smooth after remapI plan to keep this one for 4-5 years.
