Engine Problem – Misfire Cylinder 4, 5 and 6 - 997.2 (2010)

Hi,
I have a strange problem with my 997.2 (3.6 – 2010 model) . The car starts first time but the engine idle goes lumpy after a while on idle and at low speeds feels hesitant sometimes (noticeable). Ive scanned the car this morning using a PIWIS computer and is coming up wth a misfire on Cylinder 4, 5 and 6.

I am now scratching my head and am open to suggestions on what to do next. Could this be down to a bad O2 sensors?

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Hi had the same on my cayman s last week. Changed plugs no good, changed coil packs no good which left the vario solenoid. It doesn't show on standard diagnostics had my indy do it along with AOS . From what they said the solenoid alters the camshafts so affects the running.

Hi normally valve lift solenoid stuck open.

Just had the same problem turned out to be the solenoid.

Also recently had same problem on 997.2 DFI with 66k miles - valve lift solenoid (replaced under extended warranty).

I had this exact problem. Turned out to be the valve lift thingy and another small bit from memory. The indie specialists at Maidenhead (can't remember their name) sorted it for me and my 09 plate 997 ran sooooooo smoothly afterwards it was unreal.

Although it could be the Variocam solenoid it would be best to get the car to someone who can diagnose it properly. Fault finding over the internet is fraught with danger.

Quick check is possible:

Start from cold; leave idling; after 90 -130 seconds the valve lift will change from high to low and the idle will settle down, if one of the two solenoids is sticking, the engine will fluff and misfire - generally with a flashing check light.
