I usually love this event- but this year I found the whole day a bit 'flat'......
Whether it was due to the fact they cancelled having any parade I don't know-
it's just turned into all the other car shows and not particularly interesting.

Some amazing cars present- but I found myself leaving earlier than normal.

Now only ever two years I agree this year was a bit 'flat'

The danger is these events end up turning into an excuse for dealers to try and sell overpriced cars.

Lovely venue however

Thought it was great. Nice drive there in convoy, met some friends, saw some lovely old Pork.

There was a black speedster that had stuffing coming out of the seats, crazed paint and what looked like a fair bit of rust underneath being offered for 275k. But you can easily ignore that sort of stuff and enjoy the cars that were there in my opinion.

Yes i agree. Beautiful cars as always. People were leaving early as no driving parade. A show like this is all about the sound and smell of the cars. Also very dissapointed with the cattering. Only a few stands.
The numbers were definately down this year, maybe people were holding off with the pre booked tickets, just incase of the weather.??

Didn't see the speedster however I did stop and have a look around the Paul Stephens Reto builds . One car I particularly liked untill I was told it was £285k! Does anyone spend that cash on a 'retro' that's not a Singer?
I'm thinking of all the special factory pork I could buy for that money

not what it was though, 2012 was the 40th birthday of the 2.7 RS so they had a get together, and your car was there obvs...

I am not sure the numbers were down if you look at the car parks they were all full.
Catering ! this event crys out for a picnic.
Parade was stopped because of the few with straight pipes reving the nuts off the engines so it had to stop !

The cars were top notch vs the Classics at Silverstone which all were a bit tatty, this event brings out the cream imo.

It's a hard event to manage I guess, it was always a small event for classics owners only, so it's grown a lot imo.

I quite like the event still, it's one of the few I take the other half, it's always a picnic event and a chav free zone, a relaxing day out with friends.

people did leave early though by 2 it was dead.

Also my mates car which I was only helping put the engine in 2 weeks ago was out for the 1st time in 10 years a RHD SWB 65

Me too, I only stayed for a couple of hours this year. Much better when they had the parade up and down the hill.
Some lovely cars on display though, especially in the car park! smile

I spoke to a few others and they stated it was flat too. Its in the wrong place....way to far out for many.

It was never a big event though, and has always been a classic owners event, not really a public event ! , I am not sure want people want, if you wanted a big supercar event one could have gone to Salon Privé over the weekend.

Or you had the Classics Silverstone event a few months back.

This event has never been like that.

It's a fine line car events. As I said the parade was good but people want to do the "look at me thing" and rev the tits of cars with straight pipes.
It's not a lambo owners event !!!And that why the parade was stopped, the few ruin it for the many as normal.

When you have owners from Scotland and Europe, one cannot say it's in the wrong place lol

Agree, and a sentiment I've heard before.

It's a great event and a lovely setting, but it should alternate with somewhere perhaps further West and, dare I say it, North - if the weather can be relied upon wink, to get some fresh visitors, displays, and traders.

There are plenty of lovely settings further West, if they want to grow this, then think this needs to be looked into...

The impression I get of the organisers PCGB is similar to that of a members only drinking club in Mayfair that has resisted change since the 1940's. It may get a new lick of paint but that's about it.

Did the PCGB organise it this year then? In previous years it's been a commercial operation, I avoided it then because it was trying too hard to be a GFoS....I didn't attend this year because it foolishly wouldn't allow entry on the gate on the day. I just couldn't commit that far ahead.

I really enjoyed it and showed this red short-chassis 1967 911S for a friend. Just the right number of knowledgeable people, some nice cars. The awards were at 2.30pm and that was probably enough. I would always go - agreed much better than Silverstone Classic. I have a 993 but would not feel left out parking at the bottom field.

Sorry, perhaps I shouldn't take the bait, but nothing could be further from the truth. The Club has put in considerable effort over recent years to invest in smaller and regional events, improve quality and to embrace all members be they in Boxsters, Boxster Spyders or 918 Spyders.

I would like to think this approach has proved demonstrably successful with a significant increase in membership, membership retention and membership satisfaction.

The Club is recognised as world leading by Porsche Germany and that accolade has not been achieved by luck.

So far as Classics at the Castle is concerned, a lot of people worked hard to put on a great event enjoyed by hundreds. I have personally seen many emails of thanks to my team, the event was clearly well received by many.

We would have loved to have a moving parade . The event has to be professionally managed though, appropriate health and safety considerations are undertaken, risks assessed and insured. Moving racing cars, crowds of people and picket fence safety barriers are not quite what work for insurers in 2017.

As others have said, the event was to celebrate the 911S and other older cars and has always been about beautiful cars in beautiful surroundings. Credit where it's due, I think we pulled that off rather well.

To suggest that the event is just like any other car show is somewhat disingenuous given the quality of what was in display.

As the saying goes, you can please all of the people some of the time and some of the people all of the time but you can't please all of the people all of the time...

You can't please all of the people Rob. My wife and I came in our 2.7RS and thoroughly enjoyed it. Great to see so many well kept and loved old porks in one place.
