When replacing your coffin arms, would you normally change the wishbone control arm* at the same time?

  • Not sure if that's the correct terminology but it's this part I mean

The control arm you refer to is often called the "tuning fork" because of the sound it makes when "pinged" off the car.

It only needs to be changed if the rubber components are worn or if there is any play at all in the bearings. They tend to wear only on the faces in their mounted position so its difficult to feel minor slop if the wheels are off the ground as the joint will be in a different position.
If the car has done more than 60 - 70K miles there is a good chance that replacement will sharpen up the geometry. This, of course, depends on the conditions in which the car has been driven!

Cheers Pugley. I'm just getting all the bits together to do a full front and rear suspension arm refresh, as well as top mounts (what a price they are!! eek ) so I suppose I may as well do them while I'm down there...

I got some Lemforder top mounts that seem decent quality, price wasn't too bad.

(for my '99 C2)

Yeah C2 £70-80 per side,
C4S £160 - £220 per side!

I've been told over the weekend you can use 997 C4S ones as they apparently superceded the 996 ones and are the same part but only £70ish themselves. Going to buy a couple and compare

How much would you be looking at to replace 4 of these - parts and labour?

Just had a quote through from an Indy and its a little bit more than i thought it would be.
