I noticed today that I have a longish crack (100mm) from the top of my windscreen. Obviously it needs to be replaced. Searching these forums, it appears that a 6 year old car is unlikely to be offered a genuine Porsche replacement under insurance (Admiral's policy was cited but I doubt that Direct Line are different) - is this still correct?
Autoglass website made a thing of them replacing 130 Cayman windscreens in the last 6 months - so I presume I can trust their technical ability, but is there anyone in Lincolnshire who can supply/fit a genuine article at a price that I can persuade Direct Line to pay?
Thanks in advance
Graham

What does your policy state [re windscreen claims] and was this information made available to you before inception?

I believe this is covered under conditions
2. Parts: We may decide to repair your car with parts which have not been made by your car's manufacturer but which are of a similar standard, including recycled parts.

Yep if the cars over 3 years old you are screwed for an oem screen.

I won my case on my Spyder a few years back , but the loop holes after my case were closed, I then moved insurance companies.

Autoglass replaced one on my 997 earlier this year. Screen was certainly not same brand as the original. Quick and convenient, but not a great job of re-fitting the scuttle plastics as you can see from the gap below.

Only had my 987 a few days and a lorry stoned the windscreen. I’m with Aviva’s insurance for sports and prestige cars. Can’t remember what it’s called. Went through a broker. They’ve been excellent. Paid for an oem screen at an opc.

Glad it went to porsche as it needed refitting after first go and Porsche did it no quibble and made sure it was perfect and took their time keeping it to make sure it was cured etc. Don’t think I’d get that with non oem suppliers! Be a case of tough luck mate it’s near enough

When I got my porker I knew I actually wanted decent insurance and not scrimp for the first time. Glad I did!

On older cars, some insurers allow you to pay a higher excess for an OEM screen. Worth checking.

Some insurers allow you to use your own fitter but will only pay a contribution.

Will be looking up some of the insurers mentioned here for next year's cover.

Just to close this topic off gracefully, I had AutoGlass fix the new windscreen yesterday. To be fair, I think they have done a great job. While having a chat, it seems that AutoGlass have an exclusive agreement with a Porsche dealer in Nottinghamshire for almost all the windscreens they buy so it comes from the correct factory (Saint-Gobain Sekurit in my case) and the only difference that we could spot was the small P in a triangle just above the factory mark to indicate Porsche factory fit.
Only minor hassle is that they could not fix the 3rd party DAB aerial perfectly, but it still works and stays on the windscreen. Maybe one day, I'll get Halfords to fit a new one but I have more pressing uses for the cash at the moment :-)

Just wondered if anyone who has claimed through insurance for windscreen replacement has noticed that their renewal premiums have increased as a result. When answering the questions for insurance quote you have to say yes to the 'any claims in the last 5 years' part. Although it isn't an accident, it is a claim and although this may not affect no-claims discount, there is no reason that the insurance company won't increase the premium as a result of a 'claim'. Happened to us when the wife claimed for the golf windscreen.

With Direct Line glass claims don’t raise the premium
Auto glass are great, there was an issue one time and they replaced the whole screen no quibbles
It is not possible to refit a stick on dab radio aerial without a few air bubble
Direct line glass cover also covers cracked pano roofs. Well worth getting on your cover as one of these would be a fortune no doubt if it cracked
