does a new engine , fitted in a 2002 996 (by porsche a few months ago), add value or depreciate value from the car .

a specialist is trying to sell me one , and claims that the fact that it has a new engine from porsche that has only done 600 miles , can only add value to the car , is this true ?

I would want to know why it was fitted.

if it was just an RMS issue and they replaced the engine, then I would say it certainly would make it more appealing than a 20k miles origional milage engine, SO LONG AS THEY OFFER A WARRANTY.

New engine out should mean its in top condition in there.

If the paperwork confirms this and the work is under warranty, then I'd consider it to be a positive point in the car's favour. Now you'll just have to run it in...

Agree with Nel.

Not sure why people find it offputting if the work is of correct quality. Definitely need the warranty though as there may be things that only become apparent after run in.

It most certainly does not make the vehicle more desireable. Arguably, it detracts from the value as when you come to sell it on prospective buyers will invariably ask the same questions that you are and, rightly or wrongly, many buyers will be put of by it.

If the engine was sourced and fitted correctly it would attract me to a car, but unfortunately people are scared away by things like this....to a modern porsche its just another part which was replaced....literally, you can order one by part number alone.
