993TT - black or silver?
Discussion
Am in the market for a lhd 993TT (i think!), and want a decent car that i can sell on without too much trouble when the time comes (if i could ever bring myself to part with a 993TT!!).
Black:

No substitute for Arena Red on 993T for me.
Re-sale wise gotta be silver I reckon? well defo on later stuff it is anyway, on 993 hmm dunno, people do seem to like blick on 993s (thinks of DeR, clubsport & Johnny Sennas car & also all the folks that like their cars in blick too) tough call but on a 993T I prefer silver over black myself, but then im not a current potential 993T buyer despite perhaps wishing I was, so just ignore me

Not an easy decision on colour...black looks fantastic when polished, silver is much easier to live with....so the good thing is you have to make the decision on which is actually the better car.
the black car looks V nice is absolutely the last of the breed, as you bought from there, the nice man at RSJ may do a decent Px price on your C2.
Is the silver car UK registered?
I would go over both with a fine tooth comb,..the specs will no doubt be slightly different, they will have different service histories and there is a good chance they will drive differently...one ,may just feel right.
You are not in a bad position as a buyer as you have a choice and it looks like it's going to be fun,,,to me there would be quite a bit of satisfaction in doing the groundwork and knowing I bought the better car.

The only thing I have against black is that it shows every speck of dust and grime. I seemed to spend more time cleaning my black 928 than driving it! My silver Targa is much easier to live with in that respect. That said, IMHO, black's the most impressive colour for a Porsche and that one at RSJs looks the business! I'd put up with the cleaning problem to have it.

Have always loved black cars, THE classic choice. Have had a particular loathing for silver German cars, I mean, just how many silver Porsche/BMW/Audi/Merc do you see!..................so, bought a silver 996
For some reason, probably the curves and the petite proportions, black just doesn't suit 993's. All IMHO of course

Thanks for opinions so far - KEEP 'EM COMING!!
I've had black before, and it is a pain to keep clean, but looks great.
I think the curves are more apparent with the silver.
This silver car is now UK registered, and i'm told has the 430bhp upgrade kit (factory option).
But the black car is 10,000 miles and a few months younger (98 'S' versus 98 'R').
I will go see the black car at lunchtime, but would be nice to have the afternoon off and go see the silver car too...
Think this spells the end for my Ultima/Noble idea.

my last birthday before the big 3-0 is next Saturday, where i am going for a pax lap or two in Alan's Arena TT at Bedford. It'd be nice to turn up in a TT of my own though eh?

My 993tt is in ocean blue, a beautiful dark blue metallic colour. The car looks great when clean and polished, but one drive and it starts to look dirty again. No regrets, but a colour that looks cleaner for longer would be an advantage. All things being equal, go for the silver? ![]()
Nice car Nel but I bough silver, might have dark blue next time. I've had a black car but not again, they never stay clean and I drive mine every day.

One of the few early benefits from nano-technology is likely to be in materials technology, including paints. I await with interest an 'activated' paint that repels dirt and keeps itself clean - some of the PHers seem to take great pleasure in cleaning an polishing their cars, I don't! I like the results and accept there may be therapeutic benefits in stroking the sexy hips of a 911, but the time taken could be better spent doing something else!
Have just had a look at the 2 links you put above - I think the black one at RSJ looks better but then I like the darker colours.
Both are '98s like mine, so among the last ones made as that is the same year that they started selling the 996s. 10k miles difference isn't really a big issue, and the 430 bhp kit is only an oil-cooler and a chip. If you're going to modify anyway and go up to K24s or hybrids, the only positive aspect is already having the oil cooler.
Ah decisions, decisions....at least this is a nice decision to have to make! Best of luck...

Alan, i reckon 408bhp is enough anyway
The 399lbft is more exciting for me anyway.
Can you mail me details for Bedford - address, what time you'll be there, etc? Thanks.
Prefer LHD in the aircooled stuff. Steering and pedals. Would consider RHD is the prices were closer simply for resale, but 43k won't buy me a similar RHD car to either of these!
