OPC special pricing for repairs
Discussion
I know it's a captive market.
I know it's a premium marque.
But the prices are absolutely astonishing.
An OPC just quoted me over £8k for some fairly minor work (replacing 2 bushes, replacing an AC condensor and some coolant pipes, front brake discs and pads). Not a chance it would take more than half a day.
At some point, you have to say that the whole thing is such a pisstake that it sours the experience of owning a Porsche.

Front discs and pads is an easy job.I know it's a premium marque.

AC will require the system to be drained and refilled and pressure tested - you're not paying for the parts and labour only, you're paying for the equipment and training of staff.
Depending on which bushes need replaced you may need alignment work subsequently.
Coolant pipes can be a difficult job - some of them are very hard to access.
I would say that £2500 would be a steep enough price for this, given OPC labour rates and parts prices. £8000 is unbelievable.
Only go to OPC for servicing and warranty work, if you're a non-trillionaire. Prices are bonkers (£165/hour, really?).
If you can do work yourself it's the best way (and there are lots of pattern parts out there that are just as good at half the money, or less). Lots of good books and videos on how to do it, plus you learn about the car and get to buy loads of great tools, while saving money (what's not to like?).
Or get an independent to do it for far, far less. With block-exemption laws, they can even keep the warranty going if they use OEM parts.

Unless stone damaged, check whether the condenser has rotted due to debris between it and the radiator/s, if so, may be wise to check the rads carefully and if they have been on the car a while, to have them replaced at the same time. Very little extra labour involved and you are replacing coolant pipes anyway.

Thank you. Excellent resource as ever.Nearly £3,000 to do all discs/pads on mine at OPC. £550 at local garage using the correct parts. Unless it's service work, that you need a stamp in the book for, you'd have to be crazy.
These cars are well made and quite often easier for a competant mechanic to work on than many other brands.

Unfortunately there are to many people who own a Porsche today that do nothing to their cars whatsoever. The days are almost gone when even a 40 year old would attempt to get his hands dirty. Of course its much nicer to pay through the nose and have a nice cup of porsche coffee for nothing.
Porsche have been very clever in convincing people that the car will have a breakdown, and that only a main dealer could possibly mend it. That is providing you have your porsche warrenty fully up to date of course!
It hasn't helped that there has been an element of truth to the reliability of many cars from the past.
Today, the more modern cars are less of a problem, but of course they are quite new and understandably if you have worries and can afford to pay, you will.
I have just completed an annual oil change on my 981cayman, oil £60, filter and seals £20.
Getting underneath the car for the oil plug and oil filter was not that easy.
You also need a nice garage in the dry, and today not everyone has the space and time.
It not easy for everyone. But I will do all I can on mine.
Next service is the four year. I intend to do all that I can, and then go to my specialist for the last few jobs for them to inspect it, and stamp me up.
Gadgit.

Many years ago I used to take my old 1977 Carrera 3.0 to Arlington OPC on the Bedford Road in Northampton for routine servicing, they used to have a lower labour rate for older cars, it came in at just a bit more than Autofarm, but worth it as you had a Porsche stamp in the book.
They were brilliant, proper enthusiasts, I remember once taking it in because the drivers side electric window was slow, they ordered a motor in for it, but when I went to collect it, they said all it needed was the channels lubricating. so no charge, plus they cleaned it! I really don't think that sort of service exists amongst main dealers any more.

Part of the problem is finding information about servicing the cars, porsche are controlling this much tighter than for the older cars. This is probably reducing the the number of people confident enough to diy service their cars. I would quite happily have a go if I had the necessary info but I haven't found the info I need.
Agree 100% with all the last few comments.
Its so sad that unfortunately most other companies are coding there parts so that everyone is worried that they won't work without being connected and confirmed it is a genuine part on the main dealers computer. How sad is that.
Lets just hope that all the after market parts and specialists can code the parts into the car without a problem.
What ever next?

OPs experience does seem eye wateringly expensive - not in the same league, but recently took my car into local OPC (Wolverhampton) to address loose (i.e. completely detached) brake calliper stud on my Spyder, seemingly undone at some stage and not replaced/torqued by 1st owner. Bolt replaced, all wheels removed and remaining callipers checked without charge. So there is some common sense/ customer service out there too.
Last year Opc east London quoted me to change MAF on my old 986 for nearly 1200 GBP. I bought the brand new bosch MAF online for 100 GBP and changed it by myself in 10 mins.
Unless I have a very unique model with warranty, I wouldn't visit any of them really. Their technicians are not that competent anyway.
