Hi Guys
I have a Gen 1 PORSCHE Carrera 2005 model and wish to upgrade the Rear Lights to Gen 2 spec. which are LED. Is this just a straight swop, in other words they both share the same dimensions ref. size and mounting.? I have already purchased a set off eBay and the seller assures me he took them of his Gen 1 Carrera Turbo. so he thinks they will fit. Ummm
Any thoughts on this

gen 2 lights will not fit straight onto a gen 1 - different shapes

Ebay does sell Gen 1 LED lights

Thanks for that. The seller told me they came off his Gen 1 Turbo. Is he telling ‘porkies’ !! Sorry for the pun.

If they came off a 997.1 they must be an aftermarket light the same shape as the older ones. Perhaps made by Dectane... They look good.

997.2 lights and rear bumper have a different shape...

Thanks Jack
I’ve gone back to the seller and he says his Porsche was a 1.5 Gen 1 Turbo and the lights are definitely PORSCHE. I thought it was either gen 1 or 2 with no in between ! What is 1.5?

Those are Dectane aftermarket LED lights. Not OEM Porsche.
Brand new ones are about £30 more...

ETA:
No such thing as a 997 1.5. Only 997.1 and 997.2.

Looks like they will fit. Seller a bit of an idiot, those are not 997.2 shape but 997.1

Here's what the 997.2 shape looks like, note the curvy base.

Ok, now that you have established for me these are Declane lights, should they fit my Gen 1 997 Carrera.? I hope so ! This guy as you probably saw, is saying they are ‘genuine Porsche ‘ lights !! Naughty . Anyhow thanks for your research, but let me know if they will fit , if they are Declane.

Hi
Thanks for the link showing 997.2 Rear lights. I am now a little happier with my purchase as the ones in question are not curved in any way. As you say, the seller is a bit of an idiot.

There is for the Turbo. I think some Gen 1 cars were made with the Gen 2 interior. Don't know specifics.

Thank you guys for your input. I think I may just be lucky with my purchase. Hope I don’t get any ‘error codes’ 😂

Now that you say it, I recall that the 2009 turbo had the PCM3. But no other changes. I didn’t now these where called 1.5 tough..

OP: I wouldn’t worry. Dectane is a well known German after market light specialist. I should work just fine!

LED lamp units generally consume less current and will likely give you error codes on your standard set-up; unless a resistor is put in line. 997.2 use a different Rear Body Control Module but depending on the build date of your existing RBCM the coding can be changed from incandescent to LED using the PIWIS diagnostic system so you may get lucky that way.

My previous car was a 2009 Turbo, so "Gen 1.5", and it used the traditional style bulbs - so as mentioned, they will be after market.

I've seen some Gen 1 to 2 conversions, using OEM parts, but that involves bumper, etc. and is more than just the lights.
