Ordered a new 911 Carrera from Porsche dealer in Glasgow in December, promised delivery 2nd quarter of 2018.

Dealer phoned today saying they wouldnt be getting any 911's until December 2018 at the earliest!

Offered a T or a GTS (outwith my budget). Is this common place or is the dealer at it?

There's a factory shutdown soon, in preparation for the 992, which is what you'll get if you've ordered a 911 for the end of this year

Out of interest, why did you place an order for so far in the future?

It may because it's a base Carrera. I wonder if Porsche are not making any more and only making T models instead?

If you've been offered a T, and have the extra cash for it, that's probably the way to go.

As said above there's an extended 6 month factory shut down starting April .

I suspect this will make used 911 prices pretty firm this year so I'd take the T or GTS for the summer .

Just get the T, seems to be a slightly improved base car anyway and will probably hold it's money better in the long run.

There is no factory shut down, simply that they will not be making any petrol engines for UK and Europe due to retesting required for the new emission laws. They will still be making for USA and RoW. Production of 992 commences in Octobenr I think

I was told by the sales chap I deal with at my OPC back in Oct/Nov that he couldn’t get a Carrera S for a customer who specifically wanted one in less than a year

Hi

There a lot of speculation about the Porsche factory closing or not producing UK cars to get ready for the new emissions? When are the “new emissions” being introduced and what are they, I don’t hear about other manufacturers closing their factories.
Surly the dealers knew this so I’m not quite sure why they accepted the orders.
It’s seems common practice that OPC’s take deposit before having available build slots?

The new emission tests are known as RDE Real Driving Emissions. Extract from web site:-

RDE step 1 (with a NOx conformity factor of 2.1) applies since 1 September 2017 for new car types. It will apply to all types as from September 2019.
RDE step 2 (with a NOx conformity factor of 1.0 plus an error margin of 0.5) will apply in January 2020 for new types and then from January 2021 for all types.

Not clear how these are leading to Porsche's problems

I suspect it’s a “belt and braces”reaction to the issues the wider group has had. Porsche have obviously been very slow in introducing the Diesel Cayenne which is presumably for similar reasons.

Its a VAG exercise in diplomacy to fool the EU bureaucrats that they have heeded their punishment over the 'dieselgate' debacle, and are now purer than the driven snow..
Typical reaction by any corporation when they get caught with their trousers down..Tesco did exactly the same after the horsemeat scandal when they artificially raised the price they paid to organic farmers for genuine beef by 20%....only a year later to artificially lower it by a third.
Corporations are only concerned with self preservation and greed...

I thought all base 911 were cancled as the T is the better car and selling well over the base car not selling so well so all base 911 slots were now to be T slots

hence you were offered a T, which you should have taken, you would have been better off over all £ wise, as in 3 years all the T's will come back from PCP's and drive the 4 year old base model 911's down even more.

I would have thought the T would have a higer future value by an OPC so the monthly payments I would have thought would be lower on the T even though the car costs more. have you had a quote to see the price change to swap into a T ?

Update

After writing to head of Porsche in Germany and head of Porsche GB, they will produce my car with delivery in April as promised.

First class customer service from Porsche in the end and in particular one UK based customer service chap.

Thanks for all your input
