Which will hold its value better?
Discussion
Hello
Assuming similar mileage and condition (mint - never used on track days) Which of the following do you predict will retain a higher percentage of its current value, over the next three to four years, and why? - opinions please
1 - 2016 Boxster Spider 981 (£80K)
2- 2011 GT3 (not RS or CS) (£115k)
Cheers

Both will do OK until the introduction of the Government's compulsory fossil fuel vehicle purchase scheme in 2035 which will force owners to sell for scrappage at a maximum of the original purchase price less a deduction for mileage, wear and tear.
Leading up to that date the bottom will fall out of the "collector's" car market as investors panic sell.
After that date wise investors in horses will make a killing as the world realises there isn't enough renewable electricity to power everyone's new all-electric car.

You seen how much horses cost to run :/ Leading up to that date the bottom will fall out of the "collector's" car market as investors panic sell.

I'll save you £5k and you can buy my 981 Spyder for £75k that's then a safer buy :-) just had a Service and Brake fluid change at OPC so nothing to pay for.Assuming similar mileage and condition (mint - never used on track days) Which of the following do you predict will retain a higher percentage of its current value, over the next three to four years, and why? - opinions please

GT3 is a funny market there are a few for sale and not selling, not sure why this is as these were always good sellers, JZM have had that nice white one for 5 months at least, the Hexagon one has been for sale for ever, well both have, It's a very tiny market sector at these higher prices imo esp as a lot of the potential buyers managed to get a GT4 at list price for £75k fully loaded which makes a 7 year old GT3 look VERY expensive.
GT market is thinning once the moneys out the cars, there are too many cars and the people who have made the money want out, GT3 was never a big seller, it's only overs selling the cars atm in these much bigger numbers. most people who want a GT3 have one of the models in some form now days.
put it this way if it's not got buckets in a GT3 for 2nd hand resale it's a lemon. only new rich people buy GT3 with chairs(in gereral) the 2nd hand market is way more fussy hence all the cars hanging about and there are a lot atm are all non bucket seated cars !
Of course you can find a car offer less and buy £12k worth of factory buckets you have just uped it's value and resale but it means putting in low ball offers, but as none are selling you might get lucky.
As for finding a GT3 which has never been used on a track day since 2011, that's a tough one also most have 5 or 6 owners so you cannot ever know.
I was serious about my Spyder btw that's way under OPC prices at £75k and it's fully speced and serviced up.

Do you mean to ask "for the higher percentage of its value", or "which will lose less in monetary terms"?
They aren't the same, sorry to be pedantic.
If it's the latter question, I would go with GT3, myself. It's older already and it's a GT car; they're Halo cars and always will be.
You would know what I meant if you had read my post - It clearly says "retain the highest percentage of its current value" which I further indicated in brackets........They aren't the same, sorry to be pedantic.

911R what colour is your spider and does it have A/C and bucket seats?

yep it's got a big spec with AC and buckets, in White with classic leather pack. reverse camera (a must you cannot see jack out the back) coded roll over hoops, SSP, Sports crono, PSE, PCM with NAV etc etc so at £75k well under value vs cars with the same spec, the cheaper cars are missing NAV which are for sale atm.911R what colour is your spider and does it have A/C and bucket seats?

PM me if you want more info, I bought it as a stop gap while I wait for my GT3 to arrive in March and as I said just had it 2 year service and also new brake fluid, so a very safe buy, also finance free and not on private plates so no fuss involved in selling or buying and of course under Porsche warranty.

Buy the car that you want to drive and enjoy. If you can't afford to lose tens of thousands, then look at some other hobby. Looking at the news, the whole marletplace could easily implode at any minute.
Pretty much my thoughts too. Buy the one you want to drive. I don't see the point in buying the other one just because it might be a better investment and end up not driving it because it's not the one you really wanted. To me you are looking at two completely different price points and also cars.
At £115k there is a lot more in the mix with R8's, huracans, Mercedes GT etc.
Against the spyder at £80k there is not a lot to really compare against it, unless you go older like a previous gen R8. The only car I would put in the bracket is the GT4.
In terms of the overall market there is an ever increasing supply of this level of car and with the latest GT series and next gen spyder and GT retaining manual and also the bigger 4.0 engine to my mind this will put more pressure on these markets.
For me it should always be a case of buy the car you can afford and want not the car you think will be the best investment.

I think the two white gen2 GT3’s @ £105k look pretty good value and wouldn’t bother me that much about buckets but would probably look to get a sport design steering wheel tho.
Last best of breed and gen2 just looks a bit more aggressive than the gen1 cars.
Both very different cars but both special in their own right and would have thought a closer comparison would be 997.2 GT3 vs GT4?
All IMHO!
