I'm looking to get a Porsche as daily, any suggestions on which one would be best suited to use on a day to day basis. At the moment I'm thinking about getting Cayman 718 S, or anything else in that sort of price range and quality ? All thoughts suggestions would be welcomed

Cue 718 bashing.

I would ask yourself if you like n.a. or turbo.

A late 981 n.a. will hold its value better.

And they are far better to drive than the 718 imo.

If you are unsure I would spend at least half a day driving both on your favourite roads.

Macan, if you have a family/dogs etc.

Totally depends on your other requirements other than getting to work!

Agree.

Macan if it has to have maximum versatility - everyday, whatever the weather.

981 if you want the most usable sporting Porsche.

991 if you need occasional rear seating for smaller people

718 is a great DD car for commuting, I have just completed 16,000 miles in mine and love the torquey acceleration.

People here feel quite strongly about the 981 so if engine sound is important to you it may be worth testing a 981 as well. In all other respects (than the engine note) the 718 is the better car IMO but the debate has been done to death on here.

I'd be all over a 718 with PDK if I needed to use it daily.

Only if you need a big, luxury, 5-seater, SUV.

OK, for such a big vehicle, Porsche have made them go and handle quite well. But, there are far better and much more rewarding 'dailys' wearing the Porsche badge.

All Porsches - ok perhaps not Carrera GT - were designed with daily use in mind. It is just we have become soft/have been used to cars that are easier to use (delete as applicable).

Having said that, about 25 years ago my first 911 was a stripped out car from 1970 with a full cage and cup tyres. I tried to use that daily. Sort or worked but the rate of rot was alarming. Was a bit soft so I swapped it for a ZX6R....

I am now using a 997.2 C2 as a daily. Works fine.

Panamera (GTS or Turbo). Does it all, really well.

Vince your in the right area with 718 and possibly 981 as an alternative if you prefer the sound and better residuals. Next up would be a 991 but much older for the cash so not vfm and different rather than better.

Im in a 981 from 997 GTS, the 981 spyder is a better car imo.

No bigger than a Cayenne or Macan, smaller than Bentley.

Drive much, much better.

I love Panamera’s but just too big as a daily for my use. Just relieved my OPC of a Macan Turbo PP they have coming in next month...will be my new DD...rather a nice spec. Quite excited smile

Are you keeping the cayenne diesel S or P/X it for the Macan..We have a Cayenne for a daily and at 3.5 years old the longest i've ever kept a car.We also have a new Panamera Sport turismo which really is too big for our daily but as a long distance tourer unsurpassed.
Got my name down for a Mission E which will be a brilliant daily for us as we have a large renewable energy system on our property, so basically free motoring.

Keeping the S Diesel, it’s done 17k miles since we picked it up a year ago. I think it will be the main family car for three years...and at that stage with 50k miles on it I reckon it will be worth more to me than anyone else so might just keep it full stop! Macan PP I’ll use as my daily (my wife uses the Cayenne for school run etc during the week) for a couple of years at which point I think it will probably be traded for a Mission E (have put my name down)

I think the Mission E will be a step change and given how many cars Tesla are selling despite the terrible build quality etc I think the Mission E will be a huge success and could be pretty cheap motoring for a couple of years.

Onve the Macan arrives I think we’ll then be adopting a “one in one out” policy for Stuttgart’s finest...
