Sale Valuations with Options
Discussion
Hello Chaps
Just looking to sell my 2016 Cayenne and the basic spec valuations point at £40k from a dealer yet similar cars in age, mileage and spec are being asked at over £54k
has anyone got any experience in selling cars with a lot of spec and just wondering where to position the sale price.
I have a 3.0V6 Diesel 2016 and its got £22k of options fitted. It still has 1 years of warranty too.
How much on top of base spec are the options really worth?
Thanks
Tony

I'm in a similar situation selling a low mileage, highly optioned 2014 Cayenne 3.0 Diesel. The advice from my OPC was that their trade-in value would be £8k less than their retail price (no major work required, but they have to put on 2 years' warranty, respray the front PU on almost every car they sell, and pay VAT on their margin, so it's a lot but not totally unreasonable). They advised for a private sale I should pitch it mid-way between the two. WBAC have offered £30k, and similar cars at an OPC are up for £37-38k, so I think that rule seems to hold.
Edited to add the most important bit! The only way to get a decent starting point is to ask your dealer for an opening bid, based on your car's exact options and history. The What Car? etc valuations seem to be very low, even lower than WBAC, and certainly lower than I've been offered as a straight sale to a local Porsche specialist.

I sold a cayenne a few years ago - it had c£13k of extras, and in the end I archived a few hundred pounds more than the WBAC offer.
It was 5 years old (at the time) so not suitable stock for a OPC (I sold it to a specialist)
Most of the extras were seen as mandatory I.e. Without them the car was undesirable (e.g pan roof, nav, Bluetooth , air sus, power tailgate, parking camera)
I advertised it at a couple grand more than the WBAC offer and I didn't get one serious enquiry.
As stated above
Get a WBAC offer
Get a few OPC and specialist offers
Advertise for about £3k more - if you get no interest then take the best trade bid.

Thanks for the pointers chaps.
I'll sit on this and look at how to tackle the deficit I have of car value vs outstanding finance. Its the usual stupid issue, low deposit high monthlies (which are easily affordable) but locks me in for a little longer.
The only reason I want to sell is its sat in my garage since changing jobs in November and done literally 1500-2000 miles since then!
I drive another smaller car about as I need to use the rail station car parks and they are really good at kerbing the alloys!
I note on the classifieds - hardly NO private sales anymore, does everyone sell to trade alone now?
Cheers

I struggled to sell my TTS at £25k a few years back. No calls whatsoever from AT. The issue is EVERYONE wants dealer facilities for higher priced cars..I'll sit on this and look at how to tackle the deficit I have of car value vs outstanding finance. Few have cash to buy and love being pushed into PCP by their dealer rather than borrowing from the bank with no balloon to "help" bring the monthly payments down. I ended up selling to Audi for £21k just to get rid.
You really have to trade in for another new car to get a decent offer but then you're just going back into the system and playing into the dealer's hands.
As others have suggested pitch it between WBAC (Evans Halshaw) price and what dealers are offering similar cars for. But outstanding finance and high price really narrows punters down. At the higher end of the market people really want dealer facilities/etc.
Worth asking around friends/family/colleagues. Also depending on where you/OH work you may be able to stick it up on a notice board somewhere. Helps allay some of buyers fears when you're more then just an ad on Auto trader/etc.
WRT trading in, IME what you gain on the trade in you lose on any potential discount. Main positive is convenience really.
Also you could try Tootle?
