Replaced a totally flat battery in my 2003, 996, C4 and Tiptronic will now not engage gear.
I have seen a US forum which suggests that switching on without starting, and leaving for 30 seconds, will reset the ECU and fix the issue-i will try this when I get home tonight. Any other ideas welcome - have had no previous problems whatsoever with the gearbox/engine.

Thanks

Jay..

Does it cycle through the lights on the dash?

Any luck sorting this?

79 months and one post - clearly no problems at all!

No luck yet I'm afraid. All lights as normal and car starts and idles OK.

Booked into my usual local Indy Porsche specialist and will update on the cure.

I take it you have a C4S & not narrow body C4

Unfortunately not the "S", just a regular C4

I may be mistaken but that's a rare car you have there (2003 C4), my understanding is the C4 narrow body was ceased in 2001 with the C4S taking over.

I don’t think that is correct.

It isn't - they made the C4 coupe and cabriolet in 2004, as well as the C4S coupe cabriolet.

Sorry OP - I hope you get that sorted.

Car taken to usual Indy on a flat bed, dropped off and then driven normally ???

Appears that if rear pads are seized onto discs (not releasing when handbrake pressure relieved) the tiptronic will not properly engage (I assume some sensor says no).

The action of wheels turning on the tow up the flatbed, releases pressure on disc and all is normal.
A zero cost happy ending to a problem that caused some anxious moments.

It took you 5 months to get it to your mechanic?
Do you always leave the car standing for long periods of time? No wonder your handbrake got stuck!
Simple fix would be to drive it more often! biggrin
